| Alice is a sweet, clueless girl who wears rose colored glasses and believes that she is helping, by always responding cheerfully. She doesn't understand that this makes the downhearted feel even worse. The singer is trying to get her to wake up and see that people are falling to pieces, and that they have not fallen from grace. They are just sad, and what they need is understanding, not cheery, rational phrases, that only make them feel like they will never measure up. Alice needs to acknowledge those grays and stop trying to cover them over with sunny colors. | |
