I don't know why but I always saw this song very different. It always made me think of a mother who was singing to their child who had run away from a traumatic home. The childs mother was with someone who abused them and they managed to get away and this song is something the mother is singing to the child. "You look so different than before, still the person I adore" to me always seemed like the mum was commenting on how much older they were since the last time they saw each other. The chorus is what they would say to them, had they ever been given a chance to speak to them again. "Do not make me think of him, the way he touched your fragile skin" made me think of an abusive father/step father who hurt the child and the "it haunts me everyday" makes it seem like it was something traumatic. I realise now that I read wayyy too into these lyrics but it still makes me think of that situation. I think it makes it even more beautiful to consider this aspect of the lyrics? They just became even more powerful when I put that twist to it. |
