This song is about the famous work of literature called "The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde". Jekyll and Hyde are one and the same, but Hyde is evil. > Dear Hyde > No more can I > Explain, I've tried > With words in vain The singer, portraying Dr Jekyll, is about to kill himself, which is why he says he can't and he's tried to explain. > They pass you by > Like falling rain > From perfect skies > Still falls the rain > Inside Hyde ignores Jekyll's pleas, stated by the simile "like falling rain". He adds "from perfect skies", meaning that Hyde is overwhelming to Jekyll. The same interpretation comes from "inside". > Hey brother, don't be square > Here it is, not over there > I'm your man, got it made > Feed my fire, need my shade The singer turns into Hyde and trying to persuade Jekyll to not get rid of him and that he's his best friend. > You're here, Hyde > Once more, inspire > This strangely tied > Uncertain frame Jekyll notices that Hyde is present, so by "inspire", it means that Hyde is giving Jekyll more reasons to get rid of him. > So torn inside > Still falls the rain > Two minds, one vein > Still falls the rain > Inside Again, Jekyll explains how he feels with Hyde. The rain (Hyde) keeps falling on him, and it won't stop. "Two minds, one vein" is talking about how Jekyll and Hyde have different thoughts and personalities, yet they're the same person. The chorus is still Hyde persuading Jekyll on why he's the best thing that's happened to him. By the end of the song, it's very likely that Jekyll killed himself shortly after the events of the song. |
