Joni Mitchell – Cold Blue Steel And Sweet Fire Lyrics 3 years ago
She was addicted to cocaine for awhile, not sure how long, so she does have experience with drug addiction!

Joni Mitchell – Blue Boy Lyrics 3 years ago
Good try Chelseamorning! This is a tough nut to crack! Maybe the last verse means that he will stop coming to her when she finally loses interest and turns to stone as well. But why would it be called Blue boy ? That makes no sense to me! Blue Boy is a famous painting by Gainsborough of a pretty boy dressed all in blue. It reminds me of the line, "He made himself an idol.". Maybe he objectified himself as a pretty young man to be admired. For awhile she went along with it but eventually got tired of him.

Joni Mitchell – Rainy Night House Lyrics 3 years ago
I sense that the man described in the song is almost a religious or spiritual figure. She refers to him as a "holy man." Like Buddha he comes from a wealthy family and he gives it up for a spiritual quest. He realizes that behavior like getting a tan, as his mother does, is not the point of human existence, and he is searching for more. He wants to deeply understand others, so he stays up all night watching the woman. He wants to see her without her defenses, as she truly is.
I've just recently become aware of the many religious and spiritual aspects to Joni's songs.

Joni Mitchell – The Priest Lyrics 3 years ago
I have to say that I disagree. Not all Joni's songs are about her love affairs! This one clearly, to me, is about religion. She is considering trying Christianity. She knows that it will not be easy, that it will demand difficult things of her. She knows that some of the creed doesn't make logical sense, may even contradict itself; she wonders how much of it she would have to accept. All, or just some? She also wonders how long her faith might last, will it grow or fade over time? Finally, we have the last lines, which may have to do with the fact that many supposed Christians have behaved evilly.
I find this an extraordinarily profound and unique song about a topic rarely explored in popular discourse.

Thanks once again, Joni!!
