My favorite moment of the two times I've seen Brand New live was during this song. At this point it's just Jesse onstage and he's singing kindof quietly. Of course, the entire crowd [not that it was a big crowd] is singing along. And I guess he didn't like it so he goes, I mean he *sings* "Please shut the fuck up, I'm beggin you to fly this for me." He just changes the line. It was such a cool moment and the way he screamed it. Rah. Christ I love this band. |

IrUnWiThSiZoRs - I always took it as being kindof dirty, you know? I'm not sure how it fits, exactly... let's say it's Jesse telling some girl to tell some other guy why Jesse's wrist is sore. Like... so maybe the girl wasn't supposed to be with Jesse that night, and maybe Jesse knows this "him." I don't know. That's pretty made-up.
My major question: is this song supposed to be about anger towards a girl? If so then that thing somebody said that I really liked about the bullet/chapstick line doesn't quite work. Well... it does, but you have to apply it to the chick. Is she going to hurt him to his face, [bullet], or by looking pretty [chapstick] and flirting with other guys? |

This song is so much.
But let's concentrate on the part about the low fuel light. Until recently I took it COMPLETELY literally. Like, maybe they're on a road trip or something and the low fuel light comes on. But then... What if it's a metaphor for conversation? The song's partly about *finding* conversation; that's why they leave town. So what if the low fuel light means they've run out of conversation, like... summer's over. Time to get on with their lives away from each other. It's sort of nice that way because even though they've run out of things to say, they're going to keep pushing it. Keep talking. Keep in touch. "It doesn't mean anything. We've got another 500, nother 500 [words? things to talk about?] before we shut this [summer? friendship? youth?] down." Like maybe they aren't going to be bound by the limits summer sets, maybe they'll keep it going.

I owe so much to this song, because it got me into Incubus. It's one of those few songs that I just don't get sick of even when it gets played a bunch. I love their music so much. |

I love this song. But big surprise, I love everything brand new. I saw them last Friday, and I didn't notice anyone leaving after TBS. But they both put on an amazing show. |
