My mother, God rest her soul, was the soloist for the Ford Motor Company choir back in the late 50's, early 60's and could bring a grown man to tears with her beautiful voice. Her choice of music at home wasn't Peggy Lee, Della Reese, or Patsy Cline. It was Elvis. I was 5 years old when Elvis cut this song (1956), and knew every word by 6. Figuratively speaking, she played this LP until the vinyl grooves wore out. |

Who knows where Bernie's head was at when writing this song. It's clearly a song about New York City, but I love the melody of the song and the way he tributes other people in, "I thank the Lord there's people out there like you.... |
