@[DHNF:42524] But it wasn't Paul that called Jesus the Christ, it was Peter who first called him Christ, and Jesus confirmed the designation. From Matthew 16: 15“But what about you?” Jesus asked. “Who do you say I am?” 16Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by My Father in heaven. Regarding the Essenes, they weren't Christian. They were a Jewish sect that developed before Christ was born. I'm not sure where you heard that James was an Essene, but there is no credible evidence that that is true. Finally, Jesus himself taught that belief in him was all that was required for salvation in his famous conversation with Nicodemus. From John 3: 14Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life. 16For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. 18Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. When he says "Whoever believes in Him is not condemned", it's pretty clear what his intent is, and Paul built on this intent when he wrote Romans and his other letters. Unfortunately the lyrics to this song show an incomplete knowledge of what the Bible says. I would recommend reading the source material first before believing what other writers have written 2000 years after the facts. |
