| @[All:47302] Is Dream Why are the lyrics garbage? Because you say they are? What if I think your shirt is garbage? That's my opinion. If you don't have anything nice to say then go take a long walk on a short f-ing plank. | |

| @[farmer44:47301] That's your opinion. Thankfully its not shared by everyone here. Including myself. You will be the first moron I end up blocking here as soon as you respond either positively or negatively. | |

| @[pharmageek:47300] That makes as much sense as to say that when I started to be able to actually taste real ground beef in a McDonald's hamburger (as opposed to a soy-based substitute), then I couldn't stand the taste of it after that, and stopped eating them. | |
| Bob Dylan – Not Dark Yet Lyrics | 2 years ago |

@[CoyoteJoe:46060] interesting, you wrote your review almost exactly a year ago to the day this day ( in 3 and a half hours it will have been exactly a year). Anyway, if you read my review I just now posted you will basically see that I said the same thing. It mirrors my 2nd wife/2nd marriage perfectly. She was a Serial Monogamist, just like (I believe) Dylan’s love interest who he was writing about here also was/is. |

It doesn’t really take a rocket scientist to figure this song out. Why are people so confused. I totally get what he was going through went he wrote these verses. I’ve been going through all of this for over 8 years now myself. This song is not about Sara. And it’s not about China. And it’s not about a motorcycle wreck. Ugghhh. Listen to the verse about her writing a letter to him. This whole album is about this breakup with someone who cares more about herself than anyone else. The next moron she found after Dylan would soon be singing these exact same songs that Dylan was singing here. My 2nd wife was the same thing as Dylan’s (2nd?) wife. She was a Serial Monogamist. I completely understand what he was going through. Yes, he was also having to come to terms with his old age. Just as I am also having to come to terms with right now. I am right now about the same age Dylan was when he recorded this album. The lyrics in the songs on this album totally bear this out. |

@[counting91bluecars:45651] I think you may be on to something here. Your views are fascinating. Thank you for sharing. I am a huge Chevelle fan, but I’m also a fan of some really great Christian Alternative Rock from the early 2000s (Switchfoot, TFK, and Skillet). I actually had thought maybe this song was a blow to SwitchFOOT, or TFK (Thousand FOOT Krutch) ——- hence the FOOT reference. But I now believe I am thankfully wrong. I actually you are correct. Well, suffice to say in closing. Bob Dylan is my all time favorite songwriter/artist/musician. Based on your interpretation of this song (The Meddler), you might find one of his songs he wrote and recorded for his 2012 album, Tempest of interest. The song is called, Pay in Blood. Many people here at this site (including myself) believe it is/was about the same person that you believe that The Meddler is concerning. Go check it out and let me know your thoughts. |

I am happen to be a very faithful fan of this band REM, for about the last 4 years or so. That is when I began listening to their music. Yes, most of what I was listening to was content from bygones upon bygones ago. I had not ever heard most of it, and ended up falling in love with this band. Now, fast forward to today. Up until today I would have considered my favorite album of theirs to be Fables of the Reconstruction. I had not ever listened all the way through Adventures in Hi Fi. So out of curiosity I figured I'd check it out. And, the first two tracks were actually really phenomenal. But, sadly, after those first two tracks I was forced to have to hear this unfortunate toxic sludge which began with the inexcusable lyric, 'I can't say that I love Jesus' Can you please tell me when in the frickin world are these moronic bafoons going to stop attacking Christianity in their frigging songs and albums? Why don't you morons please leave Christ alone and go attack someone else like buddah or mohammed instead? PLEASE? This track makes me ashamed to think that I actually liked something like a song called 'Driver 8', or 'Life and How to Live it', or Maps & Legends', or 'Kahutek', or 'Can't Get There from Here', or 'Green Grow the Rushes' Does anyone here see where I am going with this? Is it really the same 4-man band who wrote, recorded, and produced these two albums? |

Going to add my 2 cents here for what it’s worth. I’m not reading the entire thread first, so forgive if someone else already made this observation. I have loved the Beatles and really this album of theirs for probably close to 40 years now. But amazingly in all that time I never realized how similar this song sounds (musically) to Lennon’s Glass Onion. I’m not suggesting any type of wrongdoing on the part of either one of them, just stating an odd observation. Harrison eventually proved himself as being at least as good a songwriter as both Lennon and McCartney during the time they were together. I just thought it was interesting that it took me this long to realize this similarity. IDK, it could just be my imagination. |

| Simon and Garfunkel – I Am A Rock Lyrics | 3 years ago |

How do you people know that Simon is talking about himself here? It could be a sarcastic jab at one of his contemporaries from around that time. I can think of one. And only one. The two of them had been going at it against each other for some time in the mid to late 60’s. I won’t say who this is. But the person I’m referring to is arguably the best songwriter in the history of pop/folk/rock music. Yes he’s still living today. And he’s my all time favorite. I believe Simon bashed him in ‘The Boxer’. But he came back and covered the song himself on one of his next studio albums, just to let him know, no hard feelings. |

| R.E.M. – Pretty Persuasion Lyrics | 3 years ago |
|
I have been listening to this song several times this evening, trying to figure out what he is actually saying. After hearing it at least ten times now, I am convinced that Stipe(s) is not saying 'It's what I want', but rather, 'It's NOT what I want ......' right at the beginning of the song. I'm also convinced that he is not saying 'pure' confusion, but rather, 'your' confusion. This is not a slam to his audience, but rather to himself. What I see going on in this song is a sexual identity crisis going on between Stipe(s) and his conscience. 'He's got Pretty Persuasion' 'She's got Pretty Persuasion' Then he appears to put himself down over his own confusion regarding this discrepancy. What else can we take away from this? BTW, the person who posted a review indicating that the song is progressively showing the main character going through the motions of attempting to get the love interest's attention ---- but first failing, and then trying again, etc ...... I completely agree with your interpretation. Great observation. This is MUSICALLY one of REM's best works. Lyrically speaking though, not so much. |

@[chhaaa:43504] This is a very interesting interpretation. I never thought about it that way. I wouldn't rule this possibility out to be fair. But I still think Stipe was struggling over his own issues and confusion with his sexuality. Great insight though, for sure. |

@[DerUnbequeme:43500] No, the Internet did not exist in 1984 when this came out. But nice try. This song is about one thing. Stipe's struggle and confusion over his own bisexuality. Which in 1984 wouldn't have really been accepted like it is today. |

| R.E.M. – Begin The Begin Lyrics | 3 years ago |
|
The line, 'The only vote that matters...', I always heard this as, 'The only Book that matters...'. I assumed he was talking about the Bible. I never heard the word 'vote' in this line. After hearing the word, 'Book', instead of 'Vote', I decided I no longer liked this song as much as I once did. |
