Gavin DeGraw – Chemical Party Lyrics 3 years ago
I always thought of this song as being a metaphor for the music/entertainment industry.

The “party” representing the messy, vain, glutinous music industry; whereas the “chemical” element represents the aspirations of entertainers/record labels/etc. whom are constantly chasing a new high(stardom, fame, profits, press, influence, etc) in the same way that a drug addict is constantly chasing a high.

“Here at the party
Everyones happy
Everyones high”
- The industry/musicians/artists/ is happy because of their apparent success, however it’s a false and shallow happiness propped up by appearance and vanity(just as drug use affords a false euphoria.

“Get struck by lightning
Who here would feel it?
Who here could heal it
Who here would try”
- the lightning represents the hardships of life. If all you are pursuing is fame, fortune and vanity you can lose track of(not feel or notice) what really matters around you.

“ Who here could heal it
Who here would try”
The extreme vanity of show business is past the point of saving(healing). And nobody would even try to change it because the flawed version of the industry is what artists and record labels depend on to pay their bills and feed their success.
