I know everyone wants to make it about relationships and all but I'm pretty sure this song is a about a female dog at a friends (perhaps girlfriend) house. Hes singing about how beautiful her life is... here are some examples: (1) "she lives with an orange tree and a girl that does yoga she picks the dead ones from the ground when we come over" cant you see a white dog picking up oranges when she gets excited that someone came over... like tennis ball, she wants to play. (2) "and she gives i get without giving anything to me" Unconditional love, she doesn't expect anything but a pat on the head, nothing is given but attention. (3) "he lives in a little house on the side of a little hill picks the litter from the ground, litter little brother spills he gives i get without giving anything to me" next verse is about the male dog next door (her mate, or litter mate) and then a comparison about their behaviors, to make for a connection. (4) "and she's always dressed in white she's like an angel man she burns my eyes" shes a white dog.... she cant change her fur. (5) "we drive her 'round man she drives us wild and she moves like a little girl" the take her for car rides and she gets really excited, maybe they go to the park and play? When she gets excited she acts like a puppy again. (6) "i become a child man she moves my world" playing with her makes him feel like a kid again. (7) "got a wolf to keep her warm when he comes over she gives he gets without giving anything to see" the male dog comes over to visit and "keep her warm" and they share a connection. the song is called dogs isn't it? Its a beautiful song about a simpler life. |

this song was somewhat popular in 1992 or so... around the time of the greatest band ever (toad the wet sprocket), and right about when dave matthews first hit it with "sattelite".. i used to hear it on the radio as a kid all the time..and its been in my head for a couple years now, but i never knew who it was by.... so i typed the lyrics i knew into Google..and ..wala! god bless you google! anyway its a great old song about the trials and tribs of love. go DL it and tell me what you think. John began his career in athens GA.. he used to play at a coffe bar here called "bluesky". "driving up 85" refers to interstate 85 that runs up the east coast.. and right near athens. He just kinda moved out here without really settleing in.. so i dont think he knew alot of people.. and he was taking a big risk for his music by randomly moving here. by the way if you see the video for "no such thing" its footage from a concert at the "athens theater" where he kinda started out. the rest is kinda self explanitory.. the song is basically about his doubts, fears, and other feelings as hes basically trying to make a life for himself. athens is a big college town so it was a great place for him to start.
