I think this is the most emotionally ripping song I've ever heard. I took "the streets are jammed with cars/rockin their horns to race to the wire of the unfinished line" to mean that even with everything bad going on with his life everyone else still carries on as normal but they are unaware of their own mortality. The rest of it, yeah without the prior knowlege (although some suspicion as I knew the album was written as a large amount of his family were dead/dying), I related to cancer or aids - something with quite a slow death giving the light time to fade :( |

"I wanted to see you walking backwards And get the sensation of you coming home I wanted to see you walking away from me Without the sensation of you leaving me alone" Those lyrics are some of the cleverest lyrics I've ever heard. My boyfriend says it's gibberish. I could hit him with a spanner sometimes. The walking backwards to imply coming home obviously means the person who's being talked about has already left. If the person walked away without the sensation that they were leaving him alone it would mean they intended on coming back - which above all else is what is desired. My boyfriend is still caught on the imagery of 'walking backwards' and thinks it's silly. *growls* |

| I always thought this song was about loneliness, I guess it's because "When everybody loves me, I will never be lonely" is the main line that stuck in my head. It seemed to me that the song was about being lonely, feeling worthless and insignificant and building castles in the sky, imaginary fame and imaginary admirers based on those feelings - always wanting to be other than you are; a little more funky. I thought Mr.Jones was his imaginary friend ;) | |

I always read more into it than that. I saw them looking at medieval and modern christians and making a social comment in the differences (or lack of them) in behavoir. But it's kind of a funny song :p |

I think you're all missing the point, maybe they're saying Elizabeth Bathory *is* a vampire. ;) Seriously, I don't know what I'm talking about... But I always hear vampires when I hear that song. |
