The Killers – All These Things That I've Done Lyrics 19 years ago
"I've got soul but I'm not a soldier"-- it's statement, or possibly a statement in response. "I'm not a soldier" but "I've got soul". It makes me think of how religion has been used as a means (or excuse) for war, all throughout history. People die for their beliefs, and it's interesting to learn the Flowers is or was a morman. Maybe this is his rebuttle to what his own family/friends think of him and his new path in life. I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier. Maybe he's not willing to hurt others, but he has faith and is willing to use it to hold on and to help him reconcile "all these things that [he] has done."

Sting – Shape Of My Heart Lyrics 20 years ago
Doesn't this song remind you of the James Bond character? There is a lot behind the double agent, especially in the original Flemming books.

Katie Melua – Tiger in the Night Lyrics 21 years ago
For me, this song might have to do with a father figure. Tigers are depicted in a vast amount of ways, so it's hard to say, but what we can say is that tigers are mystifying, silent and fearful creatures. At first I thought it wasn't about a person at all but an idea, and not a happy one, but she needs it to feel good but now I'm sure whatever it is, Katie feels like it keeps the darkness contained in her dreams. Who knows, but it's such an interesting song. Below is an expert that I knew that closely resembled the lyrics:

"Tyger! Tyger! Burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?"
~William Blake, "The Tyger", Songs of Experience

Duncan Sheik – Half-Life Lyrics 21 years ago
I've been a huge fan of Sheik's for about a year now, this song being the first song that opened me up to the rest of his songs. I always considered this song to be about some girl and that was it, but I'm not sure anymore. The song deals with "fear", "pretend[ing]", a "half-life", "mysteries", our "fellow man", ectera... This song reminds me of times when I've looked around and I didn't feel right about my life because of all the truth- the truth that people sometimes hide to make themselves happy. When I feel like this, as most of us have at some point, I want to escape and pretend like everything is alright but sometimes we need to see something more that is making all of our lives meaningful--what Sheik calls daylight. Maybe love is the cure, when we're in love everything seems to fall in place, but when our crush is over things break down again. If you really like this song and the lyrics you should check out In Between by Sheik. The songs seem to deal with the same sort of feelings. Another thing I think about, being a song writing, I sometimes write songs that deal with all my current feelings because I'm never really feeling one emotion at a time. To me, Sheik uses music and lyrics to express a moment of time; he does this so well that whatever song I'm listening to of his, I just get this feeling, it's like telephathy!

Switchfoot – Meant To Live Lyrics 21 years ago
To those of you english majors, my mistake: I didn't mean to type "alliteration". My poetry class is taking over my brain I guess. I just meant plain old reference by means of allusions in the lyrics... , lol alliteration, I was close, but I sucked.

Switchfoot – Meant To Live Lyrics 21 years ago
CBrownie, I'm so glad somebody noticed the aliteration to John Steinbeck's novel, Of Mice and Men. It is my one of my favorite novels, so when I heard this song, the novel just rang in my had as I'm sure it did yours. I think you shouldn't judge everyone "slightly off' however, because an aliteration goes only as far alluding (duh) to the novel by that is quote in the song. I think they're all right on, because they all interpreted the song pretty well. You're completely right on as well, about the interpretation of the novel too, but the song is not an interpretation of the novel, it's only redeming a theme and alluding to it to stress it's overal meaning. But don't worry, I could say: Why the hell would a song be written about a Novel that's already read by 80 percent of the entire population (English/american and non), because I could be wrong, maybe this dood loves the novel too and it's a shout out (very unlikely). So next time try using I think I, and not I think you. Rock on

p.s. The mice and men quote from the song about the novel is aslo ironic as well because it isn't that great of an aliteration... if you've read the book, please explain to me why the book has anything to do with dreaming about wether or not mice and men have second tries, granted it does have to do with wondering about mice and men and second tries in a way, but the line in the song doesn't really reach the grasp much of the book. Poor, but an awesome song all the same.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Purple Haze Lyrics 23 years ago
Maybe He's askin for help or asking himself and god about what he's doin, maybe it's about the addiction that finaly killed him. I think this song is one of the first about his struggle towards the end. Well w/e, but one thing is for sure, he is questioning his actions.
