Perhaps the 'yoga class for cats' reference is literal; in fact, I heard the same story. However, it could also signify all those things in society that make you wonder where we're headed as a people. Have you seen a sign or a TV ad that made you think about just how pathetic people would have to be to buy into it? The reference to dynamite and bankrupting the sky could mean the inefficient and irresponsible handling of earth's resources, and how some don't seem to care what happens to them. All these little things add up to make you seriously question the sanity of society. Despite this, you keep living your life amongst an insane people... if they ever 'turn around', you'll be right there. |

I don't have much else to contribute to the postings thus far - I agree with the general consensus: a relationship that once was beautiful that turned sour. What Raine is referring to specifically, I don't know. I don't believe he is referring to his personal life, as other songs on the album (ie. Somewhere Out There) infer that his relationship with Chantal is going well. This is, thus far, my favourite song by OLP, for many different reasons. Lyrically and symbolically it is one of the most touching. It is very moving musically, ranging from dark and bassy to almost ballad-like. It is also a very reassuring song: we all have our dark times, our 'sunsets'; however, there is hope for all of us if we give up our differences and cultivate love. If we work hard at it, we'll make it to the next sunrise. |
