Pop Will Eat Itself – Kick To Kill Lyrics 1 year ago
This song will get you pumped up! The song seems to be about younger folk who mill about with nothing to do, nothing is available to them and so, they form gangs and fight each other.

The third verse has an interesting line. "The floor is law". I think it means when you hit the floor, you're hitting it hard. It won't give and it doesn't discriminate. Great line, especially when following the part about hitting the canvas. Obviously the floor of a boxing/wrestling ring DOES give, you can stull hit it hard enough that it hurts.

@[guitarist_10:48095] I know this comment is old, but if you get the Songsterr app (2 Rs, not a typo) then you can search the song and get the chords. The solo is inaccurate, but the rest is there.

The Offspring – Dirty Magic Lyrics 2 years ago
One of the best songs ever.
It's about an abusive relationship whereby she manipulates him and uses him.

In the first chorus, he's telling himself she loves him and has asked him to go to her place for sex. But then he says that "she's just not that way" and that "her litt5soul is stolen". To me, he's saying she's not what his idea of her is and that she may be rather callous.
"See her put on her brand new face" I think means she's two-faced and she's either acting nice or has shown her true colours for the first time.

The chorus might not be literally meaning she's cutting or threatening to cut herself. I think "pull the shades might mean to draw something to a close or to shield oneself from scrutiny by putting on a front. The razor blades could mean viciousness.
He loves her but hates the way she treats him and uses seduction as a way to keep him where she wants him and he likely kept falling for it.

In the second verse, he's saying he should know by that point who she really is and isn't the kind to be reasoned with, and his feelings make him confused or conflicted ("It's all a cloudy kind of daze"). It also says she's in one of her less pleasant moods and ridicules him for his weakness, either real or perceived and he starts to realise the whole relationship is a waste of time.

"It's oversimplified ", I think means there's so much more to it and that he's condensing it all for the song, possibly a little too much.

The line is "when my anger grows", not "angle".

It's about refusing to live on someone else's terms.

Gemini Syndrome – Babylon Lyrics 2 years ago
I think it's about how so many people try to numb themselves and look for quick fixes or instant gratification that doesn't help them in the long run.
The first verse especially seems to suggest this.

The "diet of death and cyanide" could refer to alcohol, hard drugs, or both as a crutch to escape some internal struggle.

"Welcome to the fall of Babylon" is definitely a biblical reference that might also be a political reference too. Babylon was destroyed several times, with Cyrus, Xerxes and Alexander all being credited for defeating Babylon in the BCs. One story also has it that God destroyed the Tower of Babylon because the people there were getting too powerful. This could refer to politicians and what they're doing to the world.

"And the rapture of the world we built it on"
Rapture as a transitive verb means to fill with joy. This one's a little tricky. I reckon it refers to destroying something to elevate ourselves. We, as a species, have done some fucked up things just to put ourselves above others. Put together, the chorus might mean this is starting to look like the end is coming because of what we do to each other just to feel good. It won't last because what goes around comes around. It's karma.

"The scenery is quintessential and our ignorance is fundamental"

Quintessential means basically, the perfect or typical example of a thing or person. The above has stopped surprising him as it's become typical. Ignorance is fundamental, basically meaning this is being caused by ignorance. We're fucking ourselves over because the cycle just won't end and we're just perpetuating it.

"Is there no repentance for me here" and the following lines. He's looking for a better way, but isn't sure he can find it. The cycle is too ingrained in civilisations as a whole.

"Kiss your life goodbye" and following lines. He's angry at what he sees, partly (if not wholly) because we did this to ourselves. We don't change enough to get out of the cycle and find a better way to live with each other.

Even if I'm completely wrong, it's still an absolutely phenomenal song. Aaron is an excellent singer and the band did a great job of this.

Machine Head – Blank Generation Lyrics 2 years ago
It's about childhood innocence getting fucked up and the true face of the world makes us long for those days because we were innocent as kids and we got to enjoy those times, mostly.
It's showing that life never stays the same and sometimes, it's in ways that hurt, with the lines "But time goes by and strips us to the bone"
"Poison winds of woe teach us that we're alone in this world" extends the above statement, the poison winds of woe in the metaphor carry ill omen and the lessons that came with were hard ones that left people feeling a little cynical or jaded.

The song shows us that innocence isn't always taken from a child in a sexual way or even a violent way, but in things we're told by media to love. These things are usually shallow as a fucking teaspoon and when we grow to realise how shallow and worthless or even harmful it is, it pisses us off.

Maybe not so much the MSG, but it does get used a lot more often than there's a need for. It also shows some of the violence and further than that, that we can become desensitised to it.

The song encapsulates how we all grow up missing the simpler, less sinister shit.

Machine Head – Deafening Silence Lyrics 2 years ago
This one hits me a little harder than it used to, but yeah, it's about depression and suppressed hurt or trauma. He tries to get by day to day, bit any time there's a quiet moment, here come the demons to fuck with you.

People know he's trying to hide the struggle and try to help him see it's not working ("the hurt that you try to hide is killing me"). He doesn't know how to sit in the quietness, and so he fills it with whatever distractions he can.

When those fail, the silence creeps back in and he relives those things that hurt him or some effects kick in, like panic attacks or anger outbursts. He doesn't know ways in which you can make that silence work for you, or he does from the time of the song, but hadn't gotten the hang of it yet, so he's left frustrated and the quiet makes things worse.

@[only_the_names:47759] More people in this fucked world of ours care than you might think. It's a very old comment, so this reply is technically necroposting, but I feel this one is justifiable.
Did you get past it?

A song about people who drag others down to feel good about themselves, but it doesn't last, so they keep doing it, but there's always going to be someone who knows why you're miserable.

@[sancho:47754] it's a reference to David Koresh's cult that clashed with swat in his compound in the 90s. Or was it late 80s? I think the former, definitely during my lifetime. I was pretty young, so I can't remember clearly enough. But yeah, it's after Koresh's first name, David.

Why the fuck is any label blocking lyrics posting like this?
Isn't the way we do it here covered by fair use? No one's making money off this either, so what's going on?

Record execs are on a real control kick, no idea that people discussing their songs is partly why artists make music in the first fucking place. That, fame, and fortune, but without the fame, no one knows who you are to discuss your work anyway.

Fucking suits, man.

Anyway, it's about creating an anthem for a new generation, just like it was for them; having something they could relate to and let out whatever needs letting out. It's catharsis and relatable work for people to get behind.

Marilyn Manson – Target Audience (Narcissus Narcosis) Lyrics 2 years ago
I think the line "Sorry I saw a priest being beaten and I made a wish" is a crack at the "thoughts and prayers" crowd, who don't say or do anything when bad shit happens, especially those in a position where they CAN do something about it, but still blame him and his music.

The rest of the song is about blaming him for things he had nothing to do with and it's a sarcastic snapping back at them, in the vein of
"Oh, I'm SO sorry I'm not what you want, now tell me what YOU do when shit goes south? Oh, yeah, blindly follow along and point like the other clowns".

I'd be snarky about it if it kept happening to me too.

I think it's about a guy who's just done with where he is in life and wants to do his own thing, for once. The world could end for all he cares, he just wants freedom.

He also wants to see howhow his life changes, as he chose the words'fly, dragonfly '. Dragonflies represent change in some folklores, like mine. It represents power, change/transformation, and freedom, the latter being tied to pretty much any winged creature.

He wants to be free to do his own thing and see how his life changes as a result

Pushmonkey – Handslide Lyrics 3 years ago
I thought the song was about fishing.

"When I break that water" being the hook, bait, sinker hitting the water.

"Can't bite if I am not through her", to me, referring to the hook going through the worm so it stays on. Otherwise, you won't get a bite.

"I want to have you in a hungry light"

Ok, so this is admittedly a clumsy one for me, but I see it as putting it on a grill.

"I want to pull your inside"

You have to gut the fish, after all.

I saw a comment about surfing, but I don't know enough about that to know one way or another.

Tool – Parabola Lyrics 3 years ago
To me, "this body holding me" has nothing to do with sex or another person, per se, it means the body you are in, the one holding your spirit.

That said, it can also apply to you embracing someone else, like a loved one, especially a child ("so wide eyed and hopeful").

"We barely remember who or what came before", I think means living in the moment, trying to remain in the present.
