| I love this song! To me, this is a song about being in a relationship that is failing before your eyes. As you watch it decay, you still play the role of happy participant. You have expressed your needs, but they fall on deaf ears, so you continue on the preserve the peace (“constant need To get along”). “ I push it back to get thru each day”..and the rest of the song are about faking the happiness and over exaggerating pleasure when in groups, but crashing when alone. The center of our union IMO means the base of your relationship (live/intimacy) is gone causing the relationship to cave in because there is no foundation. You are the archive of our failure, not the cause, meaning you record the failures and displeasures in the relationship by your needs not being met and your partner is content with the failure. You are trapped, and feeling black and white all the time…numb from the pain and lack of live and intimacy, doomed to live in a happy, but empty life.
