| Steppenwolf – Hippo Stomp Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| Seems like it\'s saying that no one really knows what they\'re doing, and if someone acts like they know, they\'re doing just that: acting. Essentially, think for yourself, question authority----very common themes for John Kay\'s lyrical work, and also very representative of the late 60s/early 70s counterculture that these guys were immersed in.\n\nIt\'s a uniquely written lyric, to say the least, but there\'s actually quite a bit of depth to what otherwise could have been a very silly, almost childish song. And yet it doesn\'t come off that way at all; in fact, it\'s very genuine and insightful, and retains that hard rock edge all the while.\n\nKay\'s ability to craft a well-written, engaging blues rock song that may or may not be literally about hippos says a lot about his talent. Dude had (has?) chops. I think it\'s a great song in the Steppenwolf catalog. | |
