The Neighbourhood – Flawless Lyrics 3 years ago
@[recklesss:41669] I got the feeling moreso that she was struggling with anxiety/depression or mental illness generally\r\n\r\n"She planned ahead for a year, he said let\'s play it by ear"\r\n- This gives off the impression that she feels the need to plan things very far ahead of time (happens a lot with anxiety), juxtaposed with him being comparatively laid back. \r\n\r\n"She didn\'t want him to run, he didn\'t want her to fear"\r\n- Demonstrates she may have fear of abandonment and feel scared/nervous/insecure in her close relationships, while he does not want her to be afraid of these things and feel anxious that he will leave. \r\n\r\n"Nobody said it\'d be easy, they knew it was rough, but tough luck"\r\n- Mental illness can take an incredible toll on both individuals in a relationship, and it can be incredibly difficult to work through even when both people love each other\r\n\r\n"You\'re a doll, you are flawless"\r\n"Your only flaw, you are flawless"\r\n- These come across as affirmations that you\'d tell your partner when they having poor self esteem + are struggling with their self-image as they feel like a very flawed, perhaps unlovable individual. Or, similarly, what you\'d say to a partner who fixates too much on their own flaws and picks themselves apart/tears themselves down \r\n\r\n"So, she put his heart in a bag, he wouldn\'t ask for it back"\r\n- She clung tightly to his love/affection, and he was okay with that\r\n\r\n"He didn\'t want her to cry, she didn\'t want to be sad"\r\n- He didn\'t want her to be suffering the way she was and/or he wanted to help her feel better. She wished she didn\'t have depression (or similar mental illness) and that she could feel normal (or at least not as sad).\r\n\r\n"She said, you better not leave me"\r\n- Again showing her feeling anxious/insecure in the relationship\r\n\r\n"This shit\'ll be fucked for days and weeks and months, but"\r\n- she knows she will go through long periods where she is mentally very unwell and it will impact both of them, but she still doesn\'t want to lose him\r\n\r\n"Add it all up, I can find it // The problem with love is I\'m blinded by // It rattles my lungs, but my mind is // Tangled between your little flaws // Your flaws, your flaws, your flaws" \r\n- Not 100% sure what this is intending, but to me it seems like he is saying that there is a part of him that does see the flaws in her, and perhaps sees the unhealthiness in the relationship as an extension, but he is so blinded by how much he loves/cares for her that he can\'t find it in himself to remove himself from the situation.\r\n\r\n"But I just can\'t wait for love to destroy us"\r\nThis whole part seems to me like he knows the relationship is doomed to hurt both of them, but he can\'t bring himself to leave (or to even care that it is a bad idea) because he can\'t stop himself from falling in love with her, and he doesn\'t want to stop himself from falling in love with her
