Mad Season – I'm Above Lyrics 3 years ago
Layne always said, whatever you think the song is about, that's what it's about. That being said, it's almost certainly about Layne and Jerry's relationship. Go listen to Jerry's solo album Boggy Depot. It's almost like a direct response to Above. Jerry says things like born traitor, and cut you in, part time friend. At the time Above was written, AIC had hoped Layne would go straight back to the band. Instead Layne felt that being with clean people, who'd just gotten outta rehab also, would be healthier. Jerry never forgave Layne for that. BTW Cantrell was in the serious grip of meth addiction himself. On Degradation, Cantrell completely unloaded on Layne. Layne died when Jerry toured it.

Alice in Chains – Again Lyrics 3 years ago
It\'s most definitely Layne comparing his drug addiction to an abusive relationship. He\'s not taking about rape in the classical sense. "You\'ve made a fool of me again and again" is speaking to the lack of control an addict has over his illness, and the complete ass it made him look like."You had time to think it out" and "your weak will won\'t help her heal her heart" is specifically about Layne\'s girlfriend. He\'s melding the two relationships into one sick codependency. Remember Layne always blamed himself for his girlfriends heart ailment, because he didn\'t leave enough cotton balls in the apartment. Cotton balls are typically what heroin addicts use to draw the impurities out of the junk. Layne had broken up with her, and she turned to prostitution to fuel her habit. She ultimately died as a result of the bacterial infection that Layne blamed himself for.
