Vola’s singer has been pretty forward about the lyrical themes of this record dealing with self-entrapment and failure to communicate. In a Reddit AMA, he’s stated that Owls is about a couple that is aware of problems and the need to talk through them, but they struggle to communicate and end up drinking their wine in silence instead. |

This song feels like the end of the story for the male and female characters the album has been following - our narrator acknowledges that the relationship is doomed, and yet continues to replay different scenarios in his head, wondering how things got to that point. |
