The band's music is gnostic, and buddhist. During the 90's and 2000's, a gnostic/Buddhist cult had taken the spotlight from the general Luciferianism of the Freemason monopoly within the music industry. The cult was founded by Franklin Jones, who called himself Adi Da Samraj. He had followers in Pearl Jam and the band called Live, and supposedly many more. His taught that he was god and that most religions were partly true, but had been contaminated or fabricated. He taught the ideas of a gnostic sect that believed that god was broken into several pieces of consciousness and that we need to remember we are God and will have god powers in heaven when we die. This belief is based on the gnosticism of the philosopher Hagel, who took it from various older sources, but is much darker, for they teach that the Earth must be taken to a more eden like situation through depopulation so that the final pieces of god will join and become whole and complete. this form of nihilistic gnosticism was blended into socialism, so as to compete against utopian communism. In many art works and works of art such as music, there is a running theme of the wise woman who teaches wisdom, her name is Sophia. She can be represented by Venus, an old Crone, and a goddess of Ishtar, and Kali. In gnosticism, god was orderly, but bored, so he invented Sophia to keep him company, but she had a baby, aka the devil, lucifer, who was chaotic and disruptive and full of life, (in some versions he created the child and regretted it just the same). If this reminds you of the edipus complex, or of chronos and jupiter, you would be ahead of many others who see this story not as an unconscious family mythos, but instead as a chance to feed their ego and narcissism by embracing the idea that they are god. So you see, the girl is Sophia, it is the Greek word for wisdom. Amber and gold refers to the golden age that was and is to come. You launched a thousand ships in my heart refers to Helen of troy, and thus the Hellenistic age of Greece and birth of civilization, twice, first in ancient Greece, and second during the Renaissance that led to an escape from the church and its oppression and the birth of republics and democracies again, which opened the door to the hurch persecued religion of gnosticism and its darkest form, nihilistic socialism. There is irony here, in that one of the greatest books of wisdom to come out of ancient Greece was Homer's Odyssey, and the Island of the Lotus eaters. Considering the lotus is a symbol of buddhism, it is doubly ironic. "...Thence for nine days' space I was borne by direful winds over the teeming deep; but on the tenth we set foot on the land of the Lotus-eaters, who eat a flowery food. [85] There we went on shore and drew water, and straightway my comrades took their meal by the swift ships. But when we had tasted food and drink, I sent forth some of my comrades to go and learn who the men were, who here ate bread upon the earth; [90] two men I chose, sending with them a third as a herald. So they went straightway and mingled with the Lotus-eaters, and the Lotus-eaters did not plan death for my comrades, but gave them of the lotus to taste. And whosoever of them ate of the honey-sweet fruit of the lotus, [95] had no longer any wish to bring back word or to return, but there they were fain to abide among the Lotus-eaters, feeding on the lotus, and forgetful of their homeward way. These men, therefore, I brought back perforce to the ships, weeping, and dragged them beneath the benches and bound them fast in the hollow ships; [100] and I bade the rest of my trusty comrades to embark with speed on the swift ships, lest perchance anyone should eat of the lotus and forget his homeward way. So they went on board straightway and sat down upon the benches, and sitting well in order smote the grey sea with their oars. [105] “Thence we sailed on, grieved at heart, and we came to the land of the Cyclopes, an overweening and lawless folk, who, trusting in the immortal gods, plant nothing with their hands nor plough; but all these things spring up for them without sowing or ploughing, [110] wheat, and barley, and vines, which bear the rich clusters of wine, and the rain of Zeus gives them increase. Neither assemblies for council have they, nor appointed laws, but they dwell on the peaks of lofty mountains in hollow caves, and each one is lawgiver [115] to his children and his wives, and they reck nothing one of another..." Homer, Odyssey. Here we have drugs, utopia, anarchy, and socialism, along with creatures all having One Eye. Yet, ironically, again, the people that want to consumedrugs to forget and have peace and bliss represent the evil regretful gnostic god, Odysseus represents lucifer, Prometheus, and Sophia's child, who wants life and adventure and his family, the Cyclops represent the Elite who do nothing but bully and consume. Adi Da has died, his cult is in litigation for sexual assault on several female members during his time in leadership. If you relisten to many of 311's songs, you will quickly realize 311 is a gospel group, for the lost gospel of St. Thomas, the gnostic version of the story of Jesus. Do not judge them harshly, though, when you are young and creative and have disdain for the mundane world, and someone tells you that the world is sick and you are the lightbringer, the spark of god sent to enliven the world, how can you not drink the lotus kool aid? |

| @[RaphaelVnRaben:44453] One last edit: In this time of industrialization and plastics and acrylics, which most halloween costumes are made of currently, it is easy to forget that most costumes in the past, from even the 1990's and below, were made at home by sewing bedsheets and other fabrics together, and re-shaping and editing old clothes to make the desired costume. There was a lot of sewing going on in the weeks before halloween, for children's costumes as well as for the adults. The reference to so many people to be can be found in looking out of the window and seeing the many costumed people, and of choosing one for yourself. Even today, choosing a costume for halloween can be a psychological challenge to one's identity. Please do not think that I am dismissing the deeper psychedelic era mystic, in fact, it was during this time that psychology began to become part of pop culture through Joseph Campbell's Masks of God books the second one published in 1964, and Timothy Leary's book, " The Psychedelic Experience: A Manual Based on The Tibetan Book of the Dead" in 1964, Thomas Szasz's book in 1960, The Myth of Mental Illness, and many more... The psychedelic age was not about using mushrooms and acid to get high, it was about using drugs to escape societal conventions that one placed on one's self to fit in with the world by going ape crap with drugs that really messed you up so that you could reboot the chaos that you had become, but now, you'd be programming yourself the way you want to be programmed internally. Frankly, I would just write down what I do and why I do it, and then write down how free I want to be, and work on it, within the confines of love toward myself and others in a non-rapist and/ or violating manner. The problem with the drug approach is that if you have a strong audio or visual memory, you could inhibit the boundary between imagination and reality and thus, after the drugs are out of your system, you might still have lost that boundary between memory based imagination and reality, and that is a hard road to live and is basically a drug induced schizophrenia. The other two types are natural genetically inclined boundary problems between intense memories and imagination mixing with reality, the third form is advanced technology being used against spies, or enemies of the state, or individuals that are brilliant and could advance society quicker than the governments want to happen, Its rather amazing how much more common schizophrenia is in poor people who have higher IQ's than rich people with government ties. Perhaps this explains why every year, only certain people get meningitis in their second year or third year of college, usually poor people with brilliant minds. But let's not get too paranoid here, there's no way a rich elite would use such a sociopathic way to limit competition. This is being edited in October, and during some really odd times, and one could say, it is indeed, the season of the witch. | |
| Donovan – Season of the Witch Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| @[RaphaelVnRaben:44451] I would like to add that the Irish celebrated a pagan festival of Sauin/Sawen/Samhain, a pagan festival that occurred on the new moon of the time near the beginning of November. The goddess Cailleach, a winter goddess born each year between the autumn equinox and winter solstice, on Samhain, could take the form of a hare/rabbit. Because of winter's negative aspects, she began to be seen as a hag or Crone. Farmers in Ireland and other parts of Britain would celebrate and ensure their harvest's safety by chasing her, by way of rabbits, out of their fields into the ditches and roads and fence rows between fields, hopefully into the next field where the process would be continued in an organized effort. I still believe that the weaving shuttle cock being called a rabbit is applicable, but it now appears after further research that rabbits in the ditch is very much a halloween tradition for some pagan people in Britain and Ireland. You can get this information and more about samhain through a video on yt, Crecganford channel on his latest video called Did you know the Origin of Halloween? | |
| Donovan – Season of the Witch Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| I believe the terms two rabbits in the ditch is a weaving term, and/or sewing term. Weaving shuttles, the wood piece that went over and under verticle strings to weave a horizontal string is called a shuttle, but it often had rabbit hair in it, and it has an eye, so when teaching people how to weave, something Donovan may have experienced in the 60's, especially in England, where he wrote the song, the way to teach weaving moves is to teach how the rabbit moves up and down through the threads. Also, sewing along another hem or fabric weave, when quilting, is called sewing in the ditch. When you weave, or quilt, you have to be careful not to leave stray threads in areas that will bunch up the weave or the material, so you have to pick up every stitch of thread. The question then, is there any weaving and sewing involved in witchcraft...? Yes. The first kind of sewing involves the making of poppets (British witchcraft effigies, or voodoo dolls) mostly made of roots and twigs but having herbs stuffed or sewed into them. A popular poppet is an actualy doll-like object called a kitchen witch in England, a half made doll with a face resembling a human to symbolize a witch for good luck, supposedly. I have been researching sewing and weaving in witchcraft, and honestly, there is not much to find, and if there is some esoteric craft out there, it will be difficult to determine whether it came before the Golden Dawn's Wicca creation, or if it existed before that event in 1936 when Gerald Gardner organized it and designed the magic system and spiritual/natural calender for it. There are now books about sewing as a form of witchcraft, of course many books and articles are currently being written on how to put magical intent into any activity that you do, such as cooking and cleaning. I think the idea of the synergy of weaving and personality change fits this song very well. Just as you can change your shirt, you can change the way you act or talk, and intrinsically, after a long time of acting differently, change who you are inside. This is not only about a cultural change, but a personality change that was a movement in the 60's, remember how people, especially those who were not beatniks, were called either hip or square? Add to this how drugs were used and still are, to alter not just your mood and world view, but your temperment too and the song becomes a reflective piece on personality change in a strange land at a strange time. Looking at your reflection while high or in my case, drunk, when the occasion merits it, is quite a strange experience. Now, this is not an attempt to make the song out to be literal, it is, after all, a work of art and not meant to be taken literally. I just wanted to add, for you all, a background to the song that actually may have had sometihing to do with weaving. For me, the idea of weaving one's behaviors and personality into something new, is intriguing, and I hope you find that to be so as well. | |
| Mazzy Star – Blue Light Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| @[Adscititious:41295] The blue light is moonlight, the moon is the ship sailing past the window. Now, the original blue light in the eye could have been made more blue by a tv being on in the room, and so we have two windows, one in the bedroom wall, and the other window is a window to the world via a tv screen. But the moon is miles away, so the song solidified around the moon. Also, during this time, we have the popular tv show Sailor Moon, which may or may not have influenced the song writing, probably not, though. Now, the moon is a soft light, but in the day, the sun comes out, and is a flame that makes people hot. Stars and celestial events and objects are a running theme in this band. Mazzy Star is like its own entity, in a good way, Mazzy being a term meaning special, precious, jewel like, a pearl. This can apply to the moon, oddly enough, but also any star, and even the sun. In fact, a lot of their songs tend to make you think the sun is being worshipped. Luciferianism, the belief that a light bearer came and fell and suffered to bring us life and enlightenment, is a common belief system preached to artists of all kinds, and the rebellion and preachiness of it is highly appealing to rebellious artists. I do not suspect that Mazzy Star particularly fell into that, nor that their star really fits the lucifer mold. In fact, the devil in their songs tends to symbolize abusive parents. The last lines, I want them to beat to me, might be a misheard lyric, but it might be beat, if so, there are two ways people beat to someone, it is a phrase, they were beating their way through the crowd to see me, and beat to me, keep time to the music\'s beat. I think in this case, it meant for people to beat toward them, in a loving way, like hearts beating for someone, feeling sorry for them and loving them, or just loving them, in a platonic way. When you\'ve been hurt, especially by authority figures, that you were supposed to be able to trust, it leaves a void in your life, and you feel more intensely the love from other people because of it. I am a poet, so I hope she does not mind me explaining this. Much love to you and her. | |
