| The Mention of Helicopters would indicate that this song is about different atrocity but I have a good idea of what may have inspired Eugene the singer to write this song.\n\nIt would require a brief history lesson.\n\nSeptember 29 1941, Kyiv Ukraine. Nazi Occupiers of Ukraine ordered all Jews, Roma people and Communists to report to the city square to be relocated otherwise if they were discovered later they would be shot.\n\nThey would be loaded onto trucks and driven away but they were not actually relocated as promised instead they were only driven far enough away from the city so that the people still waiting for trucks at the city center would not be able to hear the firing squads that waited for them.\n\nThey were going on an ethnic cleansing ride like described in the song.\n\nSeveral times more people had reported to the square than the Nazi\'s anticipated so they needed to continue the executions non stop through the night and all of the next day. \n\nSome German Chaplains protested the killing of children in which cases their executions were only delayed until the next day. \n\nwitnesses say the wailing of children was unbearable and would go on into the night like described in the song. it would be the long term source of nightmares for anyone present. it was so terrible that going forward through the Holocaust the Nazi\'s would use other methods of execution like gas to decrease the psychological distress for their own soldiers.\n\nsome 33,000 people, thousands of entire families would be murdered over the course of 48 hours near the Babi Yar ravine then buried some still alive as the dirt was piled on top of them.\n\nSo being that Eugene is a Roma person from Ukraine it would mean that the only reason he was ever born is because his parents somehow evaded being killed in the genocide there so I\'m sure it\'s something that has effected his feelings about genocides or ethnic cleansing as he describes it in the song.\n\nThe song itself seems to be more loosely related to ethnic cleansings in general. | |
