| Keaton Henson – Small Hands Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| first off, i know this isn\'t what Keaton meant with this song ;-; i just have my own meaning to it hehehe\nso, my interpretation revolves around suicide and how committing that act will harm your loved one(s), namely a spouse. \nthe first three stanzas, the speaker is bringing up all these memories he has together with his one love. they\'re in a past tense, so it seems to me as if he\'s already settled the goodbye with her, probably in his head. he\'s getting ready to say goodbye with his death. i think those speak for themselves. "Miss your small hands in the palm of mine, the fact they\'re good at making" really speaks out to me because my girlfriend happens to have small hands and when we\'re holding hands it\'s a lovely feeling, and she is incredibly crafty; "good at making".\n\nAnd I,\nI hope for your life\nYou forget about mine\nForget about mine\n\nhe then goes on to talking about how he hopes that his love will be able to move on without him in her life. he doesn\'t want all the pain he suffered to be transferred to her. speaking from experience, i know that one of the sole reasons i have\'t offed myself is because of how the few people that love me would be affected. \n\nhe goes on to bring up a couple more memories, and then\n\nPlease forget me, you were right dear,\nI am cold and self-involved,\nAnd though I\'ll miss you, recent lover\nI am weak and therefore fold\n\nhe goes back to the hope that she forgets him and his life and pain entirely. he realizes that suicide is a selfish act; "I am cold and self-involved", but the pain is too much. he cannot go another day feeling how he feels. "I\'ll miss you, recent lover, I am weak and therefore fold". he cares incredibly deeply about his love. the fact, though, is that he is in too much pain to go on with this life. he feels he is weak. he feels as though there is no salvation possible for his happiness and his will to live. \n\nI\'ll write my loneliness in poems,\nIf I can just think how to start\n\nto me, this speaks loudly of him planning to write his suicide notes. he wants to express how he feels in his note; his loneliness, his despair. this song is a suicide note on its own (ofc not really, just my interpretation). he\'s having trouble, though, thinking of how to describe his thoughts. this seems to be a constant theme, and he is so deeply in his own mind that taking his own life seems to be the only way to express how he feels. \n\nClose my eyelids, hide my eyes,\nI\'ll be idle in my ideals,\nThink of nothing else but I.\n\nnow he is preparing to die. he is closing his eyes, hiding the world from what he is about to do. he\'ll be brief, he\'ll take a quick way out. he\'s thinking of nobody but himself as he does this, because it hurts too much otherwise and he knows how much killing himself will hurt his love so he actively chooses to only think of himself as he does this. \n\nthe song ends with him once again pleading to his lover that she forget him and his life entirely. it is the only way he sees to make everything better. him dead, her moving on with life and not thinking of him and his pain at all. \n\nso yeah that\'s my take | |
