@RozYeh! I read she was invited by a friend to go hear Don McClean when he was just starting out in clubs. and nothing to do with American Pie which had not been written yet. Few songs bring the feelings I feel when I listen to this song after finally knowing the real words! I feel her emotions it seems . |

@[quester:40991] \r\nI read also she was in New York and went to a small club and Don McClean was playing that night. He had not reached any fame at that time. She was taken aback by his song or songs that it inspired this song.! I have experienced that before but it was with Joni Mitchell. Also this song is much more interesting knowing her inspiration for writing it! For years I thought she said "Strumming my face with his fingers" which is not the same as the real words. |

@[geistmosh:40990] I wonder if you have watched the you tube video with Eric Burden explaining the song? \r\n \r\n Eric Burdon & The Animals Sky Pilot HQ sound & Lyrics onscreen!!\r\n\r\n I believe your interpretation is correct. Thanks for that! I am not sure about the lyrics ,"you will never reach the sky!"\r\n\r\n Do you believe it is because the soilders killed maybe they will never go to heaven or is it about getting hiigh or what!! \r\n\r\n Eric is somewhat apologizing in a backhand way, in the start of the video. regarding it as a song about war so I don\'t believe it was about drugs and getting high.
