I guess I\'m minority here but over the years I\'ve reached the conclusion that these lyrics are terrible. And by that I mean arrogant, sexist, and shallow.\n \n"If I leave...would you still remember me?" Narcissistic.\n"\'Cause I must be traveling on now..." Why? For some solid reason? No...\n"Cause there\'s too many places I\'ve got to see." But thanks for the sex, girl.\n\nHe elaborates, \n"If I stay here with YOU girl, things blah, blah...\'Cause (unlike you) I\'M as free as a bird now. (Whereas YOU are in a cage, or whatever).\n"And this bird you cannot change." Cause I\'m more important than you, and I don\'t love you, I just wanted to have sex with you and then leave:\n"Bye-bye, baby, it\'s been sweet love, yeah, yeah\nThough this feelin\' I can\'t change"\n\nThen he ends with, "Please don\'t take it so badly\n\'Cause Lord knows, I\'m to blame," which is a mechanism to make himself feel better by taking the blame. But it\'s ultimately a meaningless gesture, because he\'s still using her for sex and then leaving her.\n\nThe only redeeming line is "Lord help me, I change," which is a grudging admission that he is a dick. I think the main reason that people love this song is the soaring guitar riff paired with the title. The actual narcissistic meaning of the song doesn\'t get noticed. \nAmiright? |

@[RonLee:40380] I think the song is amazing musically. I agree that it\'s more puzzling lyrically.\r\nI think she wants the love of her partner all through the song. She believes in love in her head, but keeps mentioning the rain. Perhaps this refers to the adversity and hard relational difficulties she has experienced. She needs "many chances" and "time to learn to crawl," but she\'s willing to love.\r\n\r\nSo I think "will I have to kiss your nose" only means "will I have wake you so you will hold me?" rather an unwillingness to return love. |
