God ! when will these people understand this song was by The Lover Speaks and not Annie Lennox. Both are exceptionally sung but God ! when will these people understand this song was by The Lover Speaks and not Annie Lennox. Both are exceptionally sung but wow...my apologies Freeman and Hughes. \nMy Interpretation...\nThe first part of the song talks about how he used to be crazy for his lover. He loved her so bad that he was 'woebegone' even. However, as times changed his lover has turned away from him and he has tried hard for her to see him "My aching heart would bleed for you to see" kinda like how we do little things for them to see that we're hurting. But now, he has had the change of heart and does not sing 'buttonhole tunes'. He doesn't do things that make him hurt on purpose. For example, like us laying in bed at night listening to sad music to make us feel something. \n\nNo More I Love Yous\nHe has nothing else to say, he is over it \nThe language has left him because he has no one to say it to. I like to think that he has loved her so much, it became almost a crime to love someone so bad...so he was exiled. Events like these make us overlook love and never turn back.\n\nDesire and Despair...the monsters are feelings. Monsters and feelings scare but he isn't scared anymore. The language has left him |

The guy hears her voice- even though she isn\'t there. She is simply in his memory. If she just moved a little closer, maybe he would understand her better. A garrison means a group of troops so I imagine they\'re either there to come for him but he is so focused on her; he waits. He wants her so bad and tries his hardest to stay focused. Loneliness has embraced him and he knows it but he still waits for her and desires her. |

It\'s pretty self explanatory. Its a beautiful song. There\'s always thatbon person who we would do anything for even if love isn\'t reciprocal. |

I think this song is another message like his other songs. He loves a woman who he knows will break his heart but will continue to love her if she does. Even though the feelings may not be mutual, he is going to win back her love. I think it can be related when we constantly think about someone that we have to potentially resist to check our phones for their text and just have intrusive thoughts. But it gets (not in an obsessive way ish) just intense when they appear in your dreams because we\'re not awake. Maybe the girl in real life tries to avoid him and play hard to get but in his dreams she\'s coming on to him and is the opposite of how she really is. Hence why she\'s so different to Chris. |

This song is a masterpiece. Dave got me with the last few lines, \n"My whole life is work built on the past\nThe time has come when all things shall pass\nThis good thing passed away" \n\nI think the main focus of this song is pressurized too much. Dave is feeling such intense pain and regret that he is looking towards the future-the afterlife. I get the whole Cliff Burton side. The only thing that throws me off is \'the promised land\' part. Does he believe that he deserves to go to like heaven? Or if his pain makes him feel undeserving? I listened to this song a lot when I was going through a breakup not too sound corny but twas the truth. |
