It sounds to me that despite their efforts, the relationship between these two lovers (that the band’s music is narrated by) has finally come to an end. As spirits trying desperately to move on to a higher place (as so many do) beyond their “haunting”, they learn that they have to let go of each other and go their separate ways in order to do that. It’s very likely that their attachment to each other was the very thing that was holding them down and causing them suffering as well as joy since the first album.(~ “We learn to fly~ We try~Across the valley~With dreams that weigh us down~”) - their dream(s) is to live together forever as lovers, even after death. They said in previous songs that they would never let go, but that’s what’s happened. This song is a lament to their parting and an expression of gratitude for the time they had together. It’s tragic, but also triumphant. With it, comes a much needed release. They’re moving on rather than staying in the same place, which is what life is about. The line"we will unite” could mean they will ultimately come together much later; perhaps when all their lives are over and they dissolve into Source.\nMy guess as to why the sound of children playing is played at the end is that it signifies continuity. That’s life moving on. Maybe it’s the descendants of their families. The whirring on top of that is their ghostly presence just on the other side.\nI wish this band could have continued, or that the founder could get one like it going again. |
