| I love this song. Really uplifting melody, but with deep and insightful lyrics at the same time. \n\nFor me, it’s about how we’re born into a world where we’ve evolved to always want more. It’s impossible to meet all of our desires so we’re in a constant state of frustration. \n\nThe song seems to resonate with the Buddhist principle that our suffering comes from our desires. Our desires are created by our own egos. We all have internal conversations with ourselves, generally about the things we want, who we are and how we should be. \n\nWe need an exorcist to extract our ego because of the internal conflict it causes. The judgements it makes forms a picture that we hold of ourselves, but this isn’t a true picture. The ‘movie’ is in black and white because it lacks nuance – it’s “I’m a good father” or “I’m not academic”. In reality, life is played out in a spectrum of grey – nothing is black and white! The web that we spun is created by our own egos and it is this we must free ourselves from to end the frustration. | |
