Agnes Obel – Fuel to Fire Lyrics 1 year ago
I think it's about ambiguity, probably in a romantic relationship. Stuck in a limerent state, not knowing if the other person wants you gone, or feels the same way. Where every little word feels like fuel on the fire of speculation. And the beautiful description of a liminal space around them enhances that mood.

Joy Division – Isolation Lyrics 1 year ago
It's about the shame that eats you up, preventing you from fully connecting with others. It's a cry for help, but at the same time, nobody can come close enough to really help in a state like this. Aloneness feels like the only way to stay safe from all the pain that getting close to others can bring, and there is great beauty in building up a rich inner world. But it's painful to go through life feeling so alienated.

Aimee Mann – Red Vines Lyrics 1 year ago
I think it's from the perspective of a mature woman with a family, trying to keep things together, who is dating an immature man.

She was initially captivated by his charm: "Everyone loves you, why should they not?" But now she can see that he isn't fully an adult and doesn't have his stuff together, running chaotically around the parking lot catching lightning bugs instead of being present with her and making some more focused efforts with the family.

She can see his playful childishness, while attractive initially, will cause their relationship to end in the near future: "Disneyland's about to close", as his "You don't have the skill/in keeping the gag from going too far". She feels helpless to stop its demise: "With my hands tied/ watching the show", and to help him grow up and take responsibility, instead of just blaming himself and never changing: "Would it really spoil everything/ If you didn't blame yourself".

Ultimately the Cigarettes and Red Vines line perfectly captures that in-between state of childhood and adulthood, and they're both junk as opposed to a healthier life condition that would make for a happier relationship.

Talking Heads – Heaven Lyrics 4 years ago
This song is wistful under a veneer of sarcasm. Everybody is longing for a perfect life, the magical moment of love and happiness that never ends.\n\nAnd it is impossible to ever have that. And even if it were possible, it\'d be a boring way to live.\n\nBut damn it if we don\'t wish it anyway...
