Thought about this song a lot and I think the whole key is "hope somebody\'s cause takes soon / it\'s gettin hard to find a place a root can sink". Sounds to me like an 18 year old going off to war - whether that\'s American or jihadi, too young to grow a side-burn, wanting to find a cause and seeing there\'s no cause worth fighting for, and seeing the end too soon. It\'s too catchy and easy to be a real anti-war song, you\'d think, but it\'s really a song about kids dying young. |
