All you are at best only partially right. With a little decoding, the first three stanzas become clear. Every time he mentions youth (young), age (aging) or the passage of time, substitute "bisexuality".
The most important line is "I realized that God's a young man too". Hey, it was 1970 and only Bowie's third album, so he was not comfortable saying "God is a bisexual man too". Most every believing bisexual (or gay person) has to go through something similar in the process of discovery of their own sexuality. Scripture (Leviticus 20:13) says "If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination". But what have I done wrong besides discovering my own preference for my own gender? Most need to realize that God is also bisexual and there is no abomination.
Similarly, "the rumour spread that I was aging (discovering my own bisexuality) fast". And "Got laid by a young (bisexual) bordello".
As an aside, the small and yellow prayers were small (incomplete, not up to snuff) and yellow (old, paper yellows with age).
Truly a great tale of self acceptance and self discovery by D. Jones |

Eno is a bit of a sinophile at this point of his life. His take on China which was about to emerge from its slumber (but that last part is not what the song is about). |

No one can recognize "Mars" from Holst\'s "Planets Suite?"\nJust as Pink Floyd explored the power of purposeful repetition ("Set Your Controls for the Heart of the Sun" -> "One of these Days I\'m Gonna Cut You into Little Pieces"), King Crimson/Fripp explored the same ("Devil\'s Triangle [Mars]" -> "Starless").\nFor copyright reasons, they/Fripp could not call it "Mars" or give it proper citation. |
