It appears he is addressing someone named “Lord”. (the use of “Lord” here in this case, at least indicated by the voice inflections of the song, is one of address, and not interjection, imo.) “if you ever have to leave, leave yourself outside the door…if you ever have to leave this perfect world, Lord” There are some flavors of Christianity that believe at some point in the future, God, through the Holy Spirit, will withdraw from the world, ushering in a time of trial. Perhaps this is a plea to not be far away when this happens. |
