Okay, so this has been my favorite song for awhile now but I keep thinking to myself, “wow I have no clue what half of this means.” Anyways I decided to try and decipher the beautiful poetry that is this song. Starting from the beginning: - the words that they communicate to each other through their relationship are the only word that matter, and are needed for their relationship, this begins to turn sour as he begins to lie about his thoughts and feelings to the singer -the singer feels that he loves her, but actually he is beginning to fall for someone else -the other woman begins to play a role in the relationship, her starting to matter. The singer starts to feel at peace with starting distancing herself from the relationship(twilight being b/w night and day), not wanting to get hurt or overreact because of the other woman -the guy now begins to fully lust over the other woman, something that he hadn’t planned -they both begin to feel lonely as they both start to pull away from the relationship, the singer had already started to pull away from him when he reaches back out to her but it is too late now to go back to the way the relationship used to be (dawn symbolizing rebirth/renewal) -their feelings for each other were pure but not anymore, them holding onto each other (trying to stop the loneliness of starting fall apart from each other) by sleeping together and him leaving in the morning (kinda like a one night stand) -the singer wishes that she was the other woman and her lover had fallen in love with her (the singer) instead of another woman, but she knows this is unrealistic. ((side note: i really dont understand what is going on from here on out)) Meanwhile his thoughts of being with both women are completely unrealistic -He wants to feel at peace with himself but in order for him to do that he has to break his old lover’s heart (that being an evil action b/c she did nothing wrong but try to protect herself from getting hurt) -while he is contemplating his awful act towards his current lover he continues to lust for the other woman who doesn’t even love him in the first place. Well, I tried my best… hopefully that made some sense But feel free to think of the song however you wish, this is just how I view the song. |
