Heard this tune merely a couple of times a million years ago during my senior year of high school. Always remembered it though! Hadn't heard it for forty years or more until just recently so I'm stoked! Fake Friends still ROCKS! It's timeless, brutally honest and Joan Jett slams it home, totally defiant capturing the essence of an all-to-common pattern of hurtful destructive behavior from people who you thought loved you - experienced to some degree - I'm sure, by everyone on this planet!! |

@[JamesLove:39242] I'm responding to your comment, more than 9 years after you posted it, for I am just now seeing what you had to say for the first time and also because I found your perspective, illuminating and most likely, right on the money. Like you, I was also surprised that only you alone commented on this song. I remember liking this song when it was first released, when I was a child of six, perhaps seven years old. At the time, I feel it was the early'70s sound and vibe that appealed to me, just proactively discovering music in general and "King of Nothing" was reminiscent of a multitude of songs from that era that I had a fondness for. One notable aspect of that particular song for me is that it wasn't a big hit for Seals and Crofts, so after it's initial run on AM radio, I did not hear it again until about 40 years later when I came across, and purchased a "Best of" CD. Because so much time had passed, I was giddy with excitement but also wary that it might not live up to how I had perceived it through my childhood eyes. Finally hearing the track again produced the exact opposite effect on me though, as nostalgia instantly washed over me as I was transported back to a happier simpler time. The joy I felt at that moment was amazing, to say the least! So, it was cool to me finding someone else that enjoyed this song as well . Once again ... thanks for commenting back in 2012. And if you should somehow see this reply, I will be doubly amazed, surprised and impressed, and gain a new, healthy respect & profound appreciation for the powerful applications/scenarios we can now realize by using advanced computer technology as it pertains to social media platforms.
