I actually could relate to your explanation and its strangely enough really helped me to be able to express something I've long known, but have never been able to put into words that made perfect sense until I read what you have written. Now, thankfully, you've given me the words that I've long looked for, to explain exactly the truth, or the crux of the issue. @[candlesong:39156] I quite liked a lot of your reasoning in the lyrics for this song, Sacrifice, until you brought religion into the picture. This song has nothing to do with religion, and I think that preaching what you did, as a way of expressing your thoughts using a song to intermingle them is not right. This forum is about the meaning of the song, and God has got absolutely nothing to do with it. Aside from that, there is one other part that you need to be corrected on. This lyric is how you have typed it, and the word is incorrect. Here is what you have written : Cold cold heart HARDENED by you Some things look better baby Just passing through Here is the CORRECT lyric : Cold cold heart HARD DONE by you Some things look better baby Just passing through The phrase 'hard done by you' speaks of someone feeling that another person has done something very wrong to them, and that they have been " hard done " by that person. I hope that this correction is helpful to you and others who may not be aware of the correct lyric, and perhaps it might help others who were unaware of this, to further see the song in a slightly more clear light, or make a bit more sense to them now. I really like the fact that you took the time to explain each part with care. I just think that bringing God into this song, or religion, which Elton is clearly not a follower - as your bible would state that homosexuality is a sin - ( like all bibles say), you can clearly see that there is no room for God or religion to have a place within this song. It is a song that speaks about the boundaries of marriage and how infidelity for whatever reason, can destroy everything. It is not something I condone at all, for any reason, but I would recognize that for anyone to cheat whilst in a relationship, there must be something fundamentally very wrong within the relationship for one to consider doing that in the first place. My best advice to them would be to try to sort out the issue(s) or to leave the relationship, rather than to cheat. Nobody deserves to be cheated on, ever. |

@[morten1015:39153] The correct lyric is " Hard done by you" Not " hardened by you" People need to understand that he is saying that he feels that he has been " hard done by her " because of her actions. No one sets out to cheat, and I am NOT condoning cheating. But, when someone cheats, there is always a back story and something is significantly wrong within the relationship already in the first place, for someone, man or woman, to go to the lengths of cheating on their partner. So you have got two options. You cheat. OR You leave the relationship BEFORE you cheat if you feel that it is beyond repair. There is no excuse for cheating, ever. |
