| Architects – Doomsday Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| I think this song is about the death of Tom Searle, the first lead guitarist of the group.\nIt talks about the feeling of loss, and the emptiness that his death has left in the hearts of the other members.\n\nLet\'s start with the first verse :\n\n"Remember when Hell had frozen over?\nThe cold still burns underneath my skin"\nHell is known to be a really hot place lol, but there it has frozen : it\'s like everything\'s changing. The next line is an antithesis between the cold and the burn : he feels cold inside and it hurts.\n\n"The water is rising all around me\nAnd there is nothing left I can give"\nHe feels like he\'s drowning, and he cannot be saved, he can\'t go anywhere.\n\n"All these tears I\'ve shed\nI saw the wildfire spread\nYou said you cheated death\nBut Heaven was in my head"\nHe obviously cried a lot after his death, because he saw "the wildfire" spread. I think the wildfire is his pain, and he felt it grow stronger and stronger.\nThe deceased person thought he could cheat death, but he couldn\'t. We can think he had a serious desease which has caused his death, but he didn\'t want to let anyone worry about it. Finally, there is an antithesis with the first line of the verse : it started with Hell, and he says heaven. This sentence means it was only hope, and reality was really different.\n\nSo this verse talks about his pain, about all his suffering.\n\nNow, let\'s take a look at the chorus :\n\n"They say "the good die young"\nNo use in saying "what is done is done" \'cause it\'s not enough\nAnd when the night gives way\nIt\'s like a brand new doomsday"\nThe line "the good die young" is a phrase that we say to reassure and try to console mourning people, just like the other phrase "what is done is done", like some simple phrases could remove the pain, but there is "no use" in saying that, it will not be enough. This loss feels like an new doomsday, an apocalypse to him.\n\n"What will be will be\nEvery river flows into the sea, but it\'s never enough\nAnd when the night gives way\nIt\'s like a brand new doomsday"\nHere are two others phrases said to reassure, he\'s trying to reassure himself in saying that it\'ll be better, but like the others, it\'s not enough to remove the pain in this moment.\n\nHe then say "no matter what they say, it\'s like a brand new doomsday" : it means that a hurt person can\'t be healed with some words, especially when the wound is caused by the loss of someone you loved.\n\nLet\'s see the second verse :\n\n"The embers still glow when I\'m sober\nThe gold in the flame burns brighter now\nI have to rebuild, now it\'s over\nMaybe now I\'m lost, I can live"\nI think he is justifying the fact that he started drinking to forget. When he doesn\'t drink, the pain is still here. I\'m not very sure about that though... He says he has to rebuild what he has lost, he has to get well as it\'s over, he has hope.\n\n"Souls don\'t break, they bend\nBut I sometimes forget\nI have to do this for you\nAnd the only way out is through\nYeah, death is an open door"\nThis verse is really full of hope. He says that even if he is hurt now, his soul won\'t break, he won\'t die. He sometimes forget this fact as he is overwhelmed by his pain, but he has to remember, to honor the memory of his deceased loved one. He knows he has to suffer this phase to get out of depression.\n\nThis verse was him remembering that there is a hope, and he has to stand up and look towards the future in the memory of the one he\'s lost.\n\nLet\'s see the last verse, my favorite in this song !\n\n"Words the prophets said\nStill swimming through my head\nNow there\'s no stars left in the sky\n\'Cause this well will never run dry"\nSo, he speaks about the prophets and I don\'t really understand why so let\'s skip xD The well he\'s talking about probably symbolizes his tears, and his sadness. He says his sadness will never totally disappear. \n\n"What if I completely forget?\nWhat if I never accept?\n\'Cause when you fade away\nIt\'s like a brand new doomsday"\nIt\'s this part that I love most. After the verse about his hope, here are his doubts. He\'s afraid he\'s never gonna forget these feelings, and I will conclude this analyse here. This song is a really beautiful song about a mourning man. He passes through depression after the loss of a loved one, and thinks the world is gonna end. He feels like it\'s an apocalypse, a "brand new doomsday", but pain never lasts forever : there is still hope, and we have to carry on in the memory of our loved ones. Even if we never forget, because it\'s impossible, "the only way out is through".\n\nHope you agree with this ! I really love this song, it\'s one of my favorite bands :) | |
| Mother Mother – Try To Change Lyrics | 4 years ago |
|
So, this song is actually really easy to understand, but I like the message. It talks about someone who tried to change himself (wow, that's literally the title of the song), certainly because he was asked to by other people, but he just doesn't succeed. The first verse is him saying that his efforts are just useless, nothing can change him : "I try to change, I make a list of all the ways to change my ways, But I stay the same" : He wants to change so hard, he even made a list of things to change in him. Isn't it a bit extreme ? He must've lived something really harsh with other persons to think this way. He also says everything he does fails to change him. "I will try and try to change but I just stay the same" : He doesn't want to give up but he knows very well that it's useless. The second verse says almost the same thing as the first one. This time, it starts with "I stay the same", while the first one started with "I try to change" : he starts with the result instead of starting with the goal. "In a decadent age" : he criticizes the era in which he lives, maybe it's the cause of his trials. The rest of the verse is almost the same as the first one, so I'm not gonna talk about it. The third one introduces the moral. "I carry a cane, 'Cause I tried to change and I tried to hard, So I hurt my leg" : When we try to change ourselves, to change who we are, the only thing we can do is hurting ourselves. What's more : "Well over all I just stayed the same, Now I carry a cane" : Not only did he fail to change, but he also hurt himself trying : So if we can't change ourselves, why should we continue trying so hard ? The only thing we can do is hurting ourserlves, it's just useless. I'm gonna skip to the end of the song, because the last sentence apart it isn't really interesting. So, the last sentence : "It's safe to say some don't change" : I will conclude with this : Just be who you are. It's exactly what this song is saying. It may seem really naive, but it's a message really important. This song is really simple to understand so it may seem as useless as trying to change (lol), but I liked writing this :) |

| 3 Doors Down – The Road I'm On Lyrics | 4 years ago |
|
I think this song is just about someone explaining to a down person that he understands him/her, and the singer uses this to give this message to everyone : even if life sometimes feels meaningless and really hard, we are not alone, there is always someone feeling the same, on "the same road". In the first verse, there are 2 persons talking : The first one is a girl, and she says : "Life's a lot to think about sometimes, When you're in between the lines" These lines are really important, as they are a central part of the whole song. These lines are just limits. She's basically saying that she's bored of this life, and she has a lot to think about which is tiring her. Her next line : "And all the stars are sparkling, shine everyday" is her envying the persons that are out of these limits she impose herself. She sees them shining, like beautiful stars. The second person is a man, he says : "Life's so hard to move in sometimes, When it feels like I'm towing the line". He thinks the opposite way : he feels like he's pulling the limits too far with him. "and no one ever cares to ask me why I feel this way" : he's popular, he's the person that the girl saw shining, but he feels really alone, he feels like no one cares about him. In the chorus, it's the narrator (probably the singer) speaking : He adresses his message to the two people speaking (in his mouth by the way, the verse says "he says" so the man isn't really talking, it's only the narrator), but also to everyone listening : you are not alone. "And I know you feel helpless now, And I know you feel alone" : He understands the situation, he understands the people feeling down, because : "That's the same road that I'm on". He feels, or has felt the same one day. Even if we think we're alone, nobody understands us, and nobody loves us, that's not true. There are always supporting people around us, we just need to find them. The next verse, a man is speaking (we don't know if he's the same than the first or a new one, I think it's a new one.) : "life's a lot to think about sometimes, When you keep it all between the lines" : he feels exactly the same as the girl from the first verse. "And everything I want and I want to find one of these days" : He has dreams, he wants things, but he doesn't know how to achieve them, or how to do it. The chorus once again, but the first part is completely different from the first : "But what you thought was real in life, Oh it somehow steered you wrong" : Sometimes, we have a bad feeling, and it happens to be real. It happens to everyone. "And I know you just keep drivin', Trying to find where you belong" : He knows that we're strong, we're never gonna give up (never gonna let down, you just got rickrolled), and we'll always be looking for a way to feel better, to get out of the sadness tunnel we're in. So, this song is just a hopeful message to all the people feeling down ! |
