I think it's - do we ever break our mold It's about knowing that one has to leave past behaviours, creative and otherwise, for new beginnings and creative inspiration. It feels like an acknowlegement that the Verve would split because of the direction Ashcroft wanted to go. Making trippy jamming music was their forte but it is possible that the amount of drugs/time needed to fuel that side would put a strain on his/their obligations to families and health. We have to grow up sometime and grow as an artist. Maybe there were talks behind the scenes of his solo career and the others felt he was not thinking of the band future exclusively, and felt betrayed. Ashcroft being a dedicated songwriter may have worked against the free flow style of McCabe and Jones. Jamming for hours until something clicks or the magic happens is hit and miss and I suspect McCabe's exhaustion could not support Ashcroft's persistence. On the plus side for any future collaborations, McCabe's improvs and unique melody lines added to Ashcroft's tunes will always work and if he was given and minute or two to do his own thing before returning to the main riffs, Verve albums would have the endless balanced richness that has always been their trademark. .... He is telling her that he may not be as sophisticated as her sick drug addicted ex but he has love for her if she wants to accept it. Self medicating the sadness away. Knowing that people are picking up on how you are because it's showing on the outside and you are trying to cope silently. Your mind disassociates from the general day to day life. The well meaning advice people give goes in one ear and out the other, it's just noise. But someone or a person you respect does reach you now and then and brings you back to the present moment . |

A tribute to a guy who valued the use of MK, by any immoral means neccessary. Real MK involves opening up the mind to entities using s040my, the younger the age the better. When bands sell out it usually involves succumbing to rituals like that to separate their moral stance from the faustian bargain they sign up for. Of course the drug taking is to numb the side of them that knows it is wrong or harmful or to forget what they have seen and witnessed. Yeah, not pretty. Then when a band member has issues the public are told a santised story as to why they've been sacked or died. Often dysfunctional childhood is blamed .And the operators of the industry move on to the next flavour for the next generation. |
