This song is just beautiful! Powerful gorgeous voices... great transitions... really truly amazing work. ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Back from a fantasy and back to life; to reality; Back to the present day we have. (Life seems to be an illusion; a place of make-believe or possibly deceit; and the singer wants to be real). ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// I live at the top of the block. (Maybe this is some slang I am unaware of. I dunno. I don't get out much. The word block has so many meanings and remains the key word for interpretation. | The separation from his wife and kids is clear that he does not belong/ does not fit the mold/ does not like the convention of marriage and parenthood. He tries to make it work ('Til touch down brings me round again to find I'm not the man they think I am at home), but.... there is something about this lifestyle that just isn’t for him. He is a rocket man means he must live far away from convention, and when he says it will be for a long, long time, it means he accepts himself for who he is, and he can't be someone else, namely, someone required to fit that mold. Maybe he is coming to grips with his sexuality or maybe he just hates responsibility, or maybe he just doesn't have the coping skills required to deal with the personal torment marriage occasionally brings. LOL. Basically, he finds himself, and he is good with who he is and just wants to be himself. | |

Annie Lennox is a gorgeous, and a powerful, angelic singer. Signed, Capt Obvious. The song leaves me wondering what the relationship was actually founded on. Was it tradition, status, money, lust, infatuation, etc...? The options are many. One thing for sure is that the relationship is not actually founded on is "love" (whatever that is). Why? The singer states "I don't love you anymore, I don't think I ever did". At first, I thought those words were spoken out of cruelty. The more I thought about it, it seemed rather to be an honest answer to a sad realization. The singer discovered that love was never actually part of their relationship. It is unknown as to whether or not the singer lived in a false state or in some illusion, but now finds the element of love to be an important aspect of a relationship. Clearly the singer is tired of being with a self-absorbed partner which is likely the cause of the awakening to have love, and the singer is leaving this loveless relationship and is moving on. |
