Manic Street Preachers – Australia Lyrics 8 months ago

Speaking as a fellow (failed) suicidee, of course you're thinking of those you're leaving behind, because you're making their life better by leaving. And he did it on a bridge.
I get upset by those who blame the ones who succumb or fall in their own baths or beds.
Yes, probably not great for those that discover them, but if they could still instill those thoughts they wouldn't be there

Yeah but I reckon richey wasn't there eh?
Maybe I've just worked this out, and maybe it's obvious to others, but the world is fucked and even then no one is there to join him on the back of his seat, ride pillion, be with him as he decries the breaking down of society, and togetherness.

Dunno why, well I guess I do, reminds me of everclear's Santa Monica, also a great song but under appreciated, and maybe both sharing similar sentiments

Hey mate, responding to your first two queries; a crime to feel I think is "him" acknowledging yeah he feels what's going on, all he does is feel because maybe he's been too fucked up to think recently, and thence a call too soon, ie he broke it off too soon.
There's obviously emotions involved, but the song ends with him repeating
I don't remember saying
I don't remember saying

ie going back to thoughts and not emotion.
Brilliant song

The Angels (AU) – Take A Long Line Lyrics 2 years ago
Always thought this was a wry coke reference, until, y'know, I actually read the lyrics.

Fuckin doc neeson. For an Adelaide "pub band", this has whiffs of Kunderra, particularly laughter and forgetting amongst other references. A well read coke-fuelled punk.

P.S. guess I'm preaching to the converted here, but didnt know am i ever gonna see your face again was their debut single. Similar to recently realising another Adelaide pub band formed at the same time's debut single was khe sahn.
A fuckin debut single! Which then got banned from radio.
Still, not a bad debut single

Yeah always got the 1984 reference, but that first verse, so enigmatic, and I don't get the 17 28 59 reference. Although it's been years can't remember that in 1984

The Beatles – We Can Work It Out Lyrics 3 years ago
Assumed this was a boy/girl ditty, always did until I looked up lyrics and watched YouTube.

Look at the interplay between the two, of course light-hearted, but John furrowing his brow as Paul sings tried to see it your way, then the lyric you get it wrong and say it's alright/we'll play it straight and I'll say goodnight, surely not what you'd offer a lover but maybe from a frustrated studio session?
But the lyric, during the breakdown I've always thought it was a crime, the ONLY lyric that doesn't marry up to any others, the stand alone lyric;
Is he asking/pleading/exhorting John, ok, enough drugs for a bit, let's just get it fucking right?

I honestly assumed I'd jump on here and get "yeah of course it is" barrage, but the top posts (didn't trawl to far admittedly) seem to all talk of boy girl stuff

Hunters & Collectors – When the River Runs Dry Lyrics 3 years ago
I agree Mark is very well read and intelligent, and also a great and under appreciated songwriter, hence double entendre's and metaphors. I won't pontificate on what this song is about (at a guess, yep, reckon destruction of the environment, and maybe also the self assuredness that those doing the destruction afford themselves).

And re some spiritual comments, yes there are undoubtedly spiritual/religious connotations or should i say implications, I think particularly
for those wealthy conservative right christian types think god's children will never die...but I don't think this song paint's them in a good light.

And yes, I thought about it.

So now, onto The Holy Grail?
Do I need to think about that too?

Interpol – Evil Lyrics 4 years ago
@[maladjustedoor:39433] Hey mate, like the ref. By the way, reckon bohemian rhapsody is definitely inspired by the stranger (though freddie never revealed any inspirations).
Man kills another man (no motif) and whilst he is experiencing his greatest and dire tribulation of the trial, for the others involved it's just another day at the office (oh you're from there, can you do the fandango?!)...

Pearl Jam – Off He Goes Lyrics 4 years ago
Read most meanings, and yeah agree, but reckon, just reckon there's hints to his dad.

Ed is a songwriter, and especially by no code (their best album by the way, leave your scoffs and splurted beer below) he's trying to REALLY establish himself as a songwriter. Most of it is 3rd person stuff, interspersed by some great stone stuff.

Anyway, yep a friend, with addiction, but that 2nd
verse;
He's yet to come back/
but I've seen his picture/It doesn't look the same up on the rack/We go way back/I worry about his insides....

If anyone has seen Ed in the doco talking about his dad up there on the wall. Brief moment, but beautiful.

3rd verse yeah, singing about someone else, an amalgam of friend/father/brother anyone who through their own devises decided to desert the narrator.

And it's testament to Ed's writing that we're discussing and debating it
