@[JustKala:43967] I agree with much of this. Though the evolution standpoint did jumpnot at me as I was debating about the scientific theories of evolution today....the song seems beyond that imo and very much about the connection, emotionally and spiritually. It could easily be a sea of emotion he's speaking of. A sea of people....as with the saying "many fish in the sea". But I like to thinks of sea of emotion. It makes sense to say most people develop personality from both genetics AND nurturing. They were born similarly but also had similar experiences (like the "nervous breakthrough"..which I like that it's not "breakdown" as is typically the word used). It's mostly about a general experience I think but does mention a close relationship as is valued in a very unique way, as the connection makes apparent the web of time, perhaps beyond time....even if the person dies they are still very actively connected to them due to the constant nature of it. I can't help but see it as a mention of a soul mate. But I know could just be my extrapolating. I believe Jim Morrison said something about true art and/or poetry is wide to many different interpretations. That's what makes it unique and powerful to the human experience. ✨✌️❤️ God bless ????️ |

@[JTizzlesAwsome:43965] I love this lyrics too..but to me it means an endless connection to someone. I've felt this way about a person; they could literally die (which would break my heart) but they would still be alive to me as a living memory, and an essence in my life. The spider web being the metaphor for all things being connected in a web throughout dimensions. The verse also like a trippy way of saying always connected and in the song makes me imagine feeling their soul's presence in other dimensions.
Also the "nervous breakthrough makes us the same" feeling connected to that person by similar soul combined with experiences that aren't great.
Either way it's a neat song! |

Lmao it's actually about a woman who was a victim to rape and when she fell in love she couldn't get past her PTSD to consummate with the guy. “the horrific gang rape of a dancer who winds up falling in love but can’t let go of the pain,” to quote Weiland. I hope you've become less sexist and somewhat intelligent in the past decade. |

@[dweter99:37931] How does let them bleed make sense though?? Maybe her cuts if she cuts herself...idk. I had the cd and lyrics pamphlet and as I recall it was "lady" repeatedly. Not let them believe not let them bleed. I used to sing this song at the top of my lungs and STP was one of my top two favorite bands in high school. I'm not saying I can't be wrong but this isn't a song about revenge....it's about an unfortunate situation. And You're right about rape. Scott Weiland said as much. That it's about rape and how when the woman falls in love she can't get past the PTSD so-to-speak. As in she can't move on from the trauma (at least not sexually/physically). And yes knowing personally rape makes you question the world and your identity and your rapists if you had known them well. (Usually how it happens irl). Gang rape I can't imagine but from someone who had been my best friend....I didn't know how much of it was my fault for not seeing signs and taking previous advances seriously even though I tried to fight off his actual physical advances that I didn't expect. This person I "knew" for years was suddenly a dangerous stranger who seemed to think I was garbage since he could violate me, and as a young lady I put too much stock in what others thought of me. Anyway sry if tmi but ... there's my perspective. ???? |

Weiland said the meaning is “the horrific gang rape of a dancer who winds up falling in love but can’t let go of the pain,” although maybe he meant the aftermath of that. It's difficult to see. The wedding gift thing is clearly an innuendo about virginity or perhaps the physical part itself...in the pants. Lol I don't want to edit the lyrics without proof...but I had the cd lyrics pamphlet and it said "lady" again and again as I recall...that's how I thought it went like the guy is just "oh lady...." In a way of caring for this woman hopelessly even though she might be a lost cause. According to other websites it's "let them believe". Let them bleed makes no sense to me EXCEPT for the rape thing, if it's supposed to be the woman wanting the rapists to bleed but again that doesn't make sense to me given the song seems to be about her unfortunate experience not about any revenge. |
