| @[muffins:37828] actually howard st only went to mill and then merged with south main st. at that point. that section of howard was eliminated to make room for cascade plaza and to reroute the canal. the innerbelt (SR59) was built to provide a bypass south to I-76/I-77 west. many akron residents do not remember (nor do they miss) the blighted area that was redeveloped because they refused to drive or walk around that area. the redevelopment also opened up the glendale cemetery area and did a lot to help beautify the south downtown area. | |
