I think this song is about suicide. I don't think the reference to "her" means anything in particular honestly. I think it's just kind of a metaphor for the experience of thinking about your past and being stuck in that state of black nothingness that compels you to welcome death. "Tried so hard" is basically the experience as whole; as in "Tried so hard to die but I can't go through with it (suicide)" -- Not killing yourself always feels like a triumph or victory over the darkness. I think that's ultimately what the song is about. |
