“Behind Blue Eyes“ is a response to Toni Morrison’s novel “The Bluest Eye” which was Published in the same year (1970) as Pete Townshend conceived the idea for and wrote “Behind Blue Eyes”. In the novel a young black girl growing up in Ohio thinks all of her problems will be solved if she has blue eyes. Pete Townshend is responding to this by saying that having blue eyes is really only a curse not really a blessing. That having blue eyes really only causes problems and doesn’t really solve any problems. |
