Grandson – Murderer Lyrics 2 years ago
I had such eureka moment with this song and how it's structured. The first two verses are from the perspective of a b-list celebrity that not enough people know of, in his eyes. He's shocked by how easily people can forget him when a new face appears, and it gets to his head. His blood boils that bigger artists won't recognise who he is, and that Sean Evans won't invite him onto a show about spicy chicken wings. In the chorus, "you" refers to fame. When the celebrity has fame and attention on him he is happy and has sunshine, but as soon as it leaves, he's left to contemplate his existence which sends him on a spiral of drugs and leads him to taking his own life. This was also a twisted ploy to get more attention. For a period of time it works, gaining more monthly listeners on their music, but, eventually it fades into everyones unconscious minds and he is forgotten as just "another sob story when a star can't handle it, lost angel fallen in Los Angeles."

Grandson – We Did It!!! Lyrics 2 years ago
Like with a lot of his music, I do believe this is a political commentary, however what makes this unique is that it’s told from the perspective of the politician (with the public intervening with “We didn’t” and “It isn’t” before the chorus. But it doesn’t matter to this person what way the world is changing because regardless, they still gain while those not as fortunate suffer, and ignore them in the process while looking for applause from those same people.

Grandson – Stick Up Lyrics 2 years ago
I feel like there is quite a clear cut meaning to this song, more than any theories because he paints a picture with the lyrics that is so easy to follow. A soldier returns home from combat, is heavily traumatised, placed on many medications and struggling to get by. While he has found work, he’s paid very little and something different seems to go wrong. The government play the biggest factor because Tommy should be getting financial aid from them but they keep deflecting and he has to dip into his retirement fund which he loses all of (first he lost his pension). The only way for Tommy to make his voice heard and leave an impression on the congresspeople, is by committing a mass shooting on a parliament building which will at the end, include himself (I’m done playing games, so I’m going down in flames, let it rain over Washington).

Them Crooked Vultures – Interlude with Ludes Lyrics 3 years ago
This song is very eerie and rapey even for Josh's standards this song creeps me tf out. Just reading the lyrics alone without the daunting instrumentals is enough to make you read through squinted eyes. The movie "The Wolf of Wall Street" showcases to us lude taking and the effect that several of them can do to a person, how it takes a bit of time to kick in, and my thinking is the protagonist has abducted this girl already but used the drugs as a way to mask the horrible acts he's about to commtt.

Queens of the Stone Age – Someones in the Wolf Lyrics 3 years ago
This song is still about Little Red Riding Hood 17 years on. It contains so much continuity with the folk tale that it's hard to imagine it being about anything else. The sounds of the knife sharpening become terrifying when you understand the meaning behind them. As the antagonist ponders to himself "So glad you could stay forever", taking pride in the atrocities he's just committed. The thought of the second wolf in the story (that ends up drowning) being the huntsman (or the "crooked man") in the song really fucked with me when I put it together.

Queens of the Stone Age – Everybody Knows That You Are Insane Lyrics 3 years ago
I think this is the old school way of saying FOMO (fear of missing out). Just wanting to fit in with people. “You’re missing out. Well if you say so.” It’s like the protagonist of the song is just going along with whatever the group or person he’s trying to be a part of, these groups or people know they don’t fit in hence why they all know they’re insane

The Smashing Pumpkins – Soma Lyrics 4 years ago
For me this song hits home in the sense that, it’s about a toxic relationship where one person discards the other persons feelings, and guilt trip them into thinking it’s their fault, which is why “crawl back to you” is a great lyric. The chorus is the realisation that this is happening to them and they yet again feel alone despite being in a relationship
