I just love the fucked up imaginary of the lyrics. Like a fever dream. Or maybe a opium dream really. It feels like the hangover the day after an outrageous bender. |

I can’t help thinking this song is about D’Arcy leaving. James’s only connection in the band in the latter years was D’Arcy so her leaving made him leave too. I think this is his best song right after The Boy. |

How far are you willing to go to get to where that person is treading on the other side before you drown?
To me this song has always been about emotional instability in relationships.
How one person gives more than the other or perhaps one person wants more than the other is capable of giving and it creates this feeling that maybe that person isn’t meant for you but you’re unwilling to let that go.
One feels too much and the other cannot keep up with that in terms of how intense it is despite one wanting other person to return that love in equal. It’s either because he is afraid to or he simply isn’t capable of being that personal.
The realization of that moment is hard and it’s captured in this song in the most beautiful way. |

This song is for all the people who are thinking about suicide. I believe it was written in reaction to the real life tragedy of the guy who stabbed himself to death at one of their shows and all the others who have painted the Cure’s music as an influence in those suicides. |

I don’t think this is about Robert. I think it was written based on Simon’s divorce and he is putting himself in his shoes. Many songs on Wish and Wild Mood Swings were written this way. This song was also supposed to be the title of the album before it was changed to Wild Mood Swings, when it was originally conceived of being a very dark acoustic and orchestral album. Like a Nick Drake album. This is a very honest and very direct song. No ambiguity here. The last lines of “But there are long long nights where I lay awake...” are very beautiful and haunting. I think most can relate to this kind heartbreak. |

This song encapsulates everything about the album. The structure of the song is like slipping away into deep dark depression. The way it starts off melancholy and wistful, a mourning and a yearning, a raw passionate plea and finally an agonizing surrender into the void as the drums slow down and disintegrates with Robert’s desperate rage against the dying of the life in spectral discordant. |

@[leia:36646] I think he’s talking about someone he holds very dear to his heart disappointing him and letting him down. The ‘faith’ being someday things will change for the better. A sentiment that he no longer believes in anymore. |

The only song on “Faith” that is about religion is “The Holy Hour”. The title song deals with the notion of the faith we put in other people. Whatever that entails whether it’s a girl friend, best friend, family or humanity in general. |
