@[markf:36369] Are you talking about this: "If you say to yourself: “Why have these things happened to me?” For your great guilt your skirts are stripped away and you are violated." If so, thanks for proving my original point that atheists know how to read but don't understand the bible, and manipulate the bible to prove their arguments. "Skirts" in this case is not talking about women skirts, it is talking about the linen undergarments worn by priests at that time. Priests were supposed to be the spiritual leaders but because the Hebrews were so sinful at the time, even the priests should be embarrassed, so much so that they don't deserve to wear the garments of a priest. Taking away the rights of priest is "violation" because it would be humiliating to be defrocked. God is clearly addressing Jeremiah (a priest) with this verse since he says "your" and "you," not a woman/women. Therefore, it's not possible that this verse has anything to do with raping women. |

Where does it say in Jeremiah that God says that women who sin deserve to be raped? I can guarantee you have misconstrued that passage. The main issue I have with atheists is that they take bible passages out of context - they manipulate them so that they suit their arguments. However, it's one thing to read the bible, but it's another to understand the theology. Atheists can read, but without proper research, they will never understand. I can agree that many Christians follow the faith blindly, and thus are not much different from atheists, but there are also many of us who look deeper; if you decide to look deeper, I can guarantee you will discover that the bible does not say or mean any of those things you claim. @ adrian05 This passage refers to God's love for us - Jesus was sent to Earth and was crucified because of his love for us. Many atheists use this passage to argue that Jesus was a hypocrite (he does not follow the law to the "T" and therefore does not fulfill it), but if you don't understand what the law and other prophets said before him, and their underlying message you won't understand this passage. |
