These lyrics describe a soldier or former soldier experiencing a Flashback or Dissociation, which is similar to a flashback. Both are symptoms of Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). "But I know I'll be coming home soon And yes, I know that I'll be coming home soon". "Coming home" means he'll return back to reality at some point because soldiers that experience PTSD Flashbacks or Dissociations temporarily lose touch with things that are going on around them, kind of like what happens when you daydream. "Cause like the enemies that we are battling I am nothing but a human alien Left with nothing else but to keep wandering down This path whilst stopping my hands trembling" The enemies that he and other soldiers that experience PTSD symptoms like him, they're not battling enemies on a battlefield but in their minds. They are battling the memories that haunt them. He feels disconnected from his physical body and that's why he now feels like a "human alien". |
