Miniature Tigers – Afternoons With David Hockney Lyrics 4 years ago
I think this song is about either a kid or someone developmentally delayed that the singer learning from. The lines "Called me up early on Sunday Take him off your hands Just for a few hours only You need things to be quiet" definitely are saying some form of caretaker needed a break and asked for the singer to watch him. The lines about him having a list of things he dislikes makes me learn more towards developmentally delayed, as a lot of neurodivergent people like sorting/have strong dislikes towards things. The lines "David, go on, you know I'm listenin'. Tell me what's in your heart David, sometimes you try my patience; patience needed to try" show (in my interpretation) that the singer genuinely is listening and cares, and spending time with this David Hockney teaches how to be patient, and that he's grateful to have that learning opportunity, even if it makes him upset sometimes. However, it could also be less genuine, with the singer trying to tell David he's listening and cares when really he's just there to help the caretaker out, and him saying "patience needed to try" could just be him sugarcoating the fact that David is annoying him, or trying to convince himself it's ok that David is annoying him. I'm not exactly sure but some form of babysitting or caretaking really comes to my mind when I listen to this song.
