This is another really great love song by Collective Soul, done Japanese-Style, that I think is generally about an ending relationship. He is feeling the pain from the breakup and reminiscing about the time when there was no hurting... specifically when they were in love and in an aircraft above Tokyo, Japan. The reason I think that is because in the beginning he says he has a photograph of her smiling "taken way back when we could smile". And now he's on a plane, leaving, without her, off to search for happiness, somewhere, he doesnt know exactly where yet, maybe even ironically Tokyo who knows. This song is cool because it shows what it is sometimes like to be leaving a relationship, heading off into the wild blue, and missing what you used to have, while you make your way into the unknown future, in your new search for happiness. When they say "Got a photograph of some tears taken presently with more tears" I think they mean " he has a photograph with him where he/she has tears of joy in the picture, but he grabbed/taken the picture while he was crying tears of pain from the breakup and has it in-hand at present on his flight. This song makes me actually reminisce about Tokyo and being over Tokyo, so I maybe connect with it a little more than most. And makes me think of the times Ive been on planes and leaving a relationship, off to the next search for happiness. Somehow Collective Soul not only captured that in a song but added an international flair that is actually very familiar to some. A lot of people who have been over Tokyo can appreciate this song.... and though a little more rare, some people who have been OVER TOKYO in the same way as the artist can REALLY appreciate this song! Such an awesome song! |

This is another really great tragic walk in the park of a song by Collective Soul that I think is generally about an ending relationship where both people know its over, but they stick around while it crumbles. The reason I think that is because it starts out by saying they "lose every color" from the sky, "no longer shine on this burned out rainbow" and that the "something" of their bright relationship is actually turning out to be a dim "nothing" after all. They used to whisper together as a united couple but now they scream at each other and they both know they are running head on into confusion and disaster. Still they stay there, "safe" because for the moment they know what they have. Though they both know itll be over soon. This song is cool because it describes the long, drawn out crumbling of a relationship where you know its over but nobody has actually left yet, and many people have been there before. When they say " my pride with your kiss even angels cant defend" I am not really sure what they mean... but whatever it is its a negative thing when they kiss, because even the angels cant find anything good about it or defend him over it. This song somehow makes me enjoy a nice flowy melodic tune... while a love relationship crumbles to pieces before me. Such an awesome song! |

This is another really great melodic song by Collective Soul that I think is generally about unspoken feeling with a woman he hasnt started a relationship with that they both know and understand but havent acted on yet. He is wondering what he would have to lose by turning around and going back to her (presumably romantically). The reason I think that is because he begins by saying their conversation floats "like clouds in our minds", or unspoken It also says they have denied a world to themselves (of them being together?). He continues to question if he turned around, "Would that be my loss" as in what would I actually lose if he did that. He ends by wondering whats the point of all the denied conversations and not turning around to go get her, if he is still missing her once they leave each other.... (isnt that worse than just turning around, putting yourself out there and finding out?) This song is cool because it describes a situation many of us have been in where there is an unspoken like between two people, that just hasnt been verbalized or recognized between them yet, and spurns that action to just dive in... after all what will you really lose and whats the point if you experience all the missing of them when you leave without turning around to go back to them to find out anyways?. This song makes me think and remember all of the fun and anguish as a relationship just starts in the very beginning, like when you think the other person likes you, but you arent 100% sure yet and you are still a little afraid to put yourself out there all the way to find out for sure. The song says go for it!! Such an awesome song! |

| Collective Soul – Why - Part 2 Lyrics | 4 years ago |

This is another really great strong electric guitar song by Collective Soul that I think is generally about a woman who left him in a way where she felt she did no wrong and he shouldered all the blame. He asks why she had to leave so indignantly and why he has to feel so bad, and why they dont both feel the same about the breakup. The reason I think that is because he says in the very beginning he "tastes he perfection", and that he is "crawling underneath" a torture that she adores, like she enjoys watching him hurt and tortured. She obviously does not feel as bad about the breakup as he does. "Tell me why Ive got to feel this way, yeah you leave, youre gone and Im left here with the blame" he says. He is hurting because he lost her, and knows she does not feel quite the same hurt he does. This song is cool because it spews the anguish of losing someone onto a sheet of music, and the angst you feel when that loss is not experienced the same by both people. When they say "awhile you roam like a serpent satellite" I think they mean the thought of her lingers above his head like a snake-like satellite relishing in his torture from above. This song makes me feel the angst of a man dumped and the perhaps righteous scorn of a woman. Such an awesome song! |

| Collective Soul – Georgia Girl Lyrics | 4 years ago |
|
This is another really great song with cool riffs by Collective Soul that I think is generally about a girl he knew that moved from New Jersey to Georgia and left almost everything behind to start anew. The reason I think that is because in the beginning he gives the locations where she came from and moved to, and then goes on to say she "lived a contagious youth" and "swears she has no past". This hints that things may have been tough in her past life up north. He then continues to show the positives of her new life saying that she "offers fellowship" and helps "those that come from broken homes" even when her heart is "all alone", as this is her world... one where she left it all behind to start fresh and help others. This song is cool because it says that even when things were difficult in the past you can always start fresh, just like his Georgia girl did. You may still carry some emptiness in your heart from before, but you can do good and start anew. This song makes me happy to hear a positive message that you can always leave it all behind if you need to, and still be a positive force in a better world for yourself somewhere else. Such an awesome song! |

| Collective Soul – Good Morning After All Lyrics | 4 years ago |
|
This is another really great inspirational song by Collective Soul that I think is generally about the strength he gets from his religious beliefs and God when life is tough. The reason I think that is because he begins the song by saying "you give up some days" amid "tears" and that when you are "weak just to crawl" and question and winder about life and love that "God is always your strength" (and the only strength to him), and you basically use that strength to get up and "say good morning" and just take "another breath" and things will fall back in place. This song is cool because he is inspiring people that when the going gets tough, just get going, just get up and say good morning and keep breathing. For him God gives him that strength to keep taking another step and getting up each day. This song makes me glad to hear of someone finding the joy in life by always taking that first step in the right direction and finding inspiration to keep on keeping on. Such an awesome song! |

| Collective Soul – Never Here Alone Lyrics | 4 years ago |
|
This is another really great poppy song with some fun hooks by Collective Soul that I think is generally about a reminder that when there is pain in life you are never really alone while you experience it, and to take comfort in that. The reason I think that is because the artist says he "had a hurt" and "a scar", and he continues to say that he let the hurt "go" and the scar "show". He recognized the hurt, shared it outwards and found support from angels and his Father above, and that helped eased the pain. This song is cool because it reminds you that if you feel hurt you are never really experiencing it alone. For him it is God and Angels that "sing" with him, but even for those who dont share his faith, it can still be true with their believe systems, or their friends or family too. This song makes me happy to hear of someone shedding their hurt and recognizing and embracing the love around them. Its inspirational, positive and helpful to anyone who is experiencing hurt, and in a catchy poppy way! Such an awesome song! |

| Collective Soul – She Said Lyrics | 4 years ago |

This is another really great, genuine song by Collective Soul that I think is generally about the artist empathetic-ally listening and understanding a woman in his life describing her experience of some of the difficulties to grow older as a female, and then I believe it is implied that he gives her the comfort and forgiveness that she is asking from him for her current self and situation. The reason I think that is because "she says" that "time is unfair to" a woman her age and even though she has more wisdom as she is older, she has seen the vibrancy and celebrated beauty of youth "fade" as well. She says she cant even look back at her youth because she feels like she had it all wrong back then, and largely blames her parents for the mess she feels like today. Though she is older and wiser, she feels weak from having to be strong in lifes river, because she has had to struggle in the difficult stream, as "only the strong will survive". For all of this, and her current not-as-young-anymore and "still searching" situation, she yearns for comfort from the artist, and even goes so far as to ask him for forgiveness that she is the way she is today from him, and even shares that she feels like she has never really been loved. Though Im not sure the song specifically states it, he sweetly listens to how she feels, and presumably gives her all the comfort she could need, to heal her and make her feel complete, as he is trying to speak of love to her (which she refuses to speak of because she has never known it) and do whatever he can to help make her whole. This song is cool because it shows a caring man sweetly and genuinely listening to a woman's (probably very personal and private) feelings, and truly understanding how she feels and what she is going through, and then offering her the comfort and forgiveness she needs. It is one great capability/part of love and a loving relationship. When they say "its moments like these she hates to be alone" I think they mean its the healing power from another loving person that helps her feel better, and that the power of being with another person can sometimes be really important for us. This song reminds me of the sweet tender moments when a person opens up their true inner thoughts and sometimes difficult feelings to you, and the wonderful comfort that con be offered to them by a caring lover to make them better. Such an awesome song! |

| Collective Soul – December Lyrics | 4 years ago |

This is another really great, catchy song by Collective Soul that I think is generally about the artists frustration from a relationship, and the suggestion to the person to just end it if they are so unhappy with him. I think that because in the beginning of the song the artist questions why she would "drink the water from his hand" aka listen to what he has to say or take what he has to give, and then also questions why she would "follow him to higher ground" instead of going her own way, because she seems to then criticize him by calling him "contagious" or "lost". He therefore suggests that she stop "screaming" at him and sharing her thoughts aloud to him, and just end it with him or turn her head "spit him out". This song is cool because many of us have felt the same way, exasperated by criticism before and wondered why the person wouldnt just leave if they felt that way, and everybody would be better off. When they say "baby" I think that implies that the song is sung to a woman by this particular male artist. This song makes me tap my feet from the catchy beat. Its got a good soft twang and rhythm. Such an awesome song! |

| Collective Soul – The World I Know Lyrics | 4 years ago |
|
This is another really great, soulful acoustic song by Collective Soul that I think is generally about an emotional experience of being down on the world, and then being moved to tears while looking down at the awesomeness of the world from a high vantage point, either physically like from the top of a hike or high rise, or metaphorically from a religious gathering or moment. I think that because the lyrics suggest the artist questions (while alone surrounded by lots of distant people) whether society has lost its kindness and isnt seeing or listening to positive religious messages, and that he is down and pities himself for being surrounded by the tragedy he sees around him. Then when he "Walks upon high", probably physically but perhaps instead metaphorically within his religious sphere, he is moved to tears because of the spectacular and familiar beauty he sees. This song is cool because it describes two experiences that a lot of us have had before, both disappointment in the state of the world and also a feeling of awe at the world, and connects the two experiences very specifically - almost to say that if you are down or see all the negative, dont forget the awesomeness you can seen too. It takes the low and reminds you that there is also the high, to perhaps give the listener hope or reassurance or a reminder that its not all bad and sometimes it appears awesome. When they say "and I laugh at myself when the tears roll down" I think they mean its almost laughable to lose sight of the beauty of the world, like an "aha" moment or admission of how silly it is to forget, so of course keep that in mind all the time and you might not be down as much as you otherwise could be. This song makes me remember how awesome the world can appear sometimes, and that is a great thing. Such an awesome song! |
