Dance Gavin Dance – And I Told Them I Invented Times New Roman Lyrics 4 years ago
I decided to make moresoupforyou's interpretation of the song more understandable. I personally don't know if this is the meaning or not but I found it as interesting take when I finally got everything looking decent.

I think this song looks on the views of two separate people.

The beginning of the lyrics say:

"But now you know that I am cold"

Then the second set of vocals come in and says

"Take me out now I've dropped the mast down"

"And now I'm found"

I look at the line, "But now you know that I am cold" as saying that they are slowly being set into depression. "Take me out now I've dropped the mast down", relates to the loss of their will to live and happiness. The mast being their life and/or happiness. Then it says, "And now I'm found", which I think means that through this spiral of emotion they have found themselves once more, which is almost like a realization of the person's feelings.

The second vocals come back in and say:

"Duck down then hide behind the file cabnet uck down then hide behind the file cabinet"

"And without ever letting go i knew you'd"

"Duck down then hide behind the file cabinet duck down then hide behind the file cabinet"

"And without ever letting go I knew you'd gone astray"
"Stranded here in this cold atmosphere "
"Waiting for the lifeless words to come from your mouth"
"Enduring every sound"

I believe it's a third person view or the perspective of another person who's watching the one they care about go astray, hiding from those they love, and slowly changing. If they're enduring these issues then it must be somthing complex for them to deal with.

"This is not why the cast is hollow sending the rats to follow under the weight of all these eyes, fry"

The person screwed up but they're so lost that they try to find out why they hurt so much. Every answer they come up with isn't the truth. It's not the reason the cast, which I think is referring to themselves, is hollow. The rats and eyes are referring to people who look down upon this person, a lot like someone who despises a person so much they just want to see them fail in the worst way possible, spreading a grape vine of lies and hatred.

"I lay without understanding"
"I don't know why I feel this way"
"Oh, lay down girl"
"Take my world"
"I know why I cant see your face"
"I've placed every mole there is to place on your wasted body"
"Oh, lay down girl"
"Take my world"
"I know why i cant see your face"

I think these lines relate to what I'm saying. This person messed up so he does everything they can to change the face of this girl they lost, yet loved so much. A way of desensitizing their emotions for the situation but no matter how hard they try they can't let go or stop feeling.

"As the window left shattered now"
"We saw the withered body try to shout"
"You thought the price of your life was devout" "And told us some things you cant live without" "And was this what was best for us"
"And was this what was best for us"

The person is dead now, they were a jumper. Before they jumped they talked to the people that were still there for them as the line says, "You told us some things you can't live without" All of this is through the eyes of that person's friends and family asking a rhetorical question. Asking if their death was necessary and if it was what was best for both that person and them.

This is my favorite point of the song and where I think the most beauty comes in and the vocalists sing with true emotion

"(Rest where you ought to be)"
"Just let it show"
(Block out your misery)
"I'll bring you far"
"(Wait for the call, you're left in the hallway)"
"Well I'll go for it"
"(People they change, and I would still be ashamed)"
"I'll beg you when you know"
"(To let the weight of the world)"
"I'll beg you when it shows"
"(Rest on your shoulders)"
"Well I'll go for it"
"(I'll fight until the war is over)"
"I don't believe the lies"
"(I'll fight until the war is over)"
"I don't believe the lies"
"(I'll fight until the war is over)"
"I'll die for you"
"(I'll fight until the war is over)"
"(I'll fight until the war is over)"
"I don't believe the lies"
"(I'll fight until the war is over)"
"I don't believe the lies"
"(I'll fight until the war is over)"
"It's staged for you"
"(I'll fight until the war is over)"

I think the words that have parentheses are from the point of view of the person's friends and the lines without parentheses is from the person who jumped.

They're going to go for it, they will die for that person, and they won't believe the lies told to them by the people around them and even begins to think their friends and loved ones are lying as well. They've come to the point that in their head they think others are constantly lying to him.

The other person is trying to stop it them from jumping. Telling them to rest where they ought to be and to let go of their misery. The other person can't stand that their friend has all the weight of the world on their shoulders and wants to ease their burdens.

The last part happens to be the saddest part

"Left at my feet rests the soul of my brother"
"Vengeance will fall for the deeds of another"

The line "Left at my feet rests the soul of my brother" probably refers to the person who comitted suicide, with them being dead.

"Vengeance will fall for the deeds of another"

May refer to them being pushed to suicide and having their friends try to exact revenge on the wrong people.

It's a good song but people need to put more thought into what the lyrics mean. There's emotion and heart behind it and a story to be told whether someone's on drugs or drunk when they write lyrics or even sing on the spot.
