Ensiferum – Slayer Of Light Lyrics 2 years ago
I got a feeling it's about greed. the song is sung from the point of view of greed since it's poison, it's luminous sword hungers for more, until it crushes your dreams, etc. Also it burns with green flames, green is a color associated with greed.

Orphaned Land – In Thy Never Ending Way (Epilogue) Lyrics 2 years ago
Beautiful song! And I'm first to comment!
Many Orphaned Land songs have religious and spiritual meanings and this is another great one.

Here is my interpretation:

Waves that flow in the oceans of the stars
Clusters bright and far

We are compared to waves that come into this material universe; stars, planets, from our spiritual home.

Brave souls art thou, who tread the darkness

We are called brave because in the state of (seeming) separation from God we walk in darkness to be our own light.

In thy never ending way

God is infinite, and so is the journey, and the soul is eternal since it is a part of God

Say thy names with pride

God has many names (many religions on this earth) but they all point to the same entity, One worthy of respect and awe.

Candles in darkest night
Bringers of hope ignite
Ye of clearest sight

Go in peace and find thy faith
Evolve thyself and lose all hate
So a heaven you may create

This is about the dicotomy of non duality and the play of form. Oneness, aka unity with God is our natural state, but God also engages in a play where It splinters Its consiouness into a multitude of sentient forms. We, pieces of God are plunged in darkness (The fall of man, aka Leela, aka Maya, aka Samsara) through virtue, compassion, love, we attain oneness with God. We return home.

Orphaned Land – Let The Truce Be Known Lyrics 2 years ago
It's a song about the Christmas truce during WW1
It talks about how the two kids, one from the entente countries (likely Britain or France)and another from the axis (likely Germany) were brainwashed as kids that they must hate each other.
It goes on to talk about the Christmas carrol that was played on Chris. Eve, whose melody was heard by the opposing soldiers axcross no man's land, and they started to sing. After this the opposing groups of soldiers came out of the trenches and celebrated Christmas together in no man's land.
The next morning the truce is done and they go back to fighting again.

Mobile – Dusting Down the Stars Lyrics 4 years ago
Beautiful song; although many say it’s about a romantic relationship, I think it’s about the relationship between God (Not the traditional judgmental god, but the all-loving, omnipresent, not afraid to be human and suffer, closer to you than your jugular vein kind of God) and his earthly aspect/creation (us)\nVerse 1 (God’s pov);\nGod reflects on humans’ point of view regarding the difficulties of life, pain and suffering \nPre chorus (Human pov): \n“We’ve never been so close to be so far” refers to the fact that humans have a divine spark, We have the potential for non-possessive unselfish love, compassion and peace but do not always live up to that potential. In this respect we are close, yet far from divinity, but maybe that is exactly as it should be, for some reason which we can’t grasp.\n “Shall we give up so easy”-shall we continue to aspire to love and virtue or should we succumb to hopelessness and nihilism in the face of the challenges that life throws us is the question all humans ask at some point.\n“There’s millions of reasons there is no way out” reflects the millions of reasons we must consider for each choice we make in our lives and the occasional experience of being trapped or hopelessness.\nChorus: \nDusting down the stars refers to the spiritual growth by humans on earth. They remove the dust to reveal the star, the inner gem of love, integrity, virtue and everything else that is beautiful and worthy.\nVerse 2: \n“I turned to speak to you but you were gone”-Truth speaks to us but we refuse to listen and so feel lost.\n“You stood and cried…we can’t return from where we came”-when we feel lost we feel we cannot return to a state of peace and love: from where we came.\n“Why are we born to fade away”- Identifying too heavily with ego and the physical, we often fear mortality and feel small and insignificant.\nOutro:\n“We fall apart”- as we go through the pain of life, we feel like we are falling apart but in challenges there is growth.\n“As I stood outside all alone, I thought I could hear you coming back into the fold, I thought I heard you” examines the importance of reflection contemplation and meditation, especially outside in nature. Stand all alone, silent and you may hear Truth.

Amon Amarth – Father of the Wolf Lyrics 4 years ago
It's about Fenrir, the wolf.
In Norse mythology Fenrir was Loki's son. Fenrir lived with the Aesir when he was young. The wolf was growing stronger and fiercer each day and prophecies foretold that he will cause destruction.
Fenrir had already broken the first two sets of iron chains called Leyding and Dromi which were supposed to hold him. So the Aesir, led by Odin tricked him into being bound by a silky, very strong thread called Gleipnir, produced by drawves from six mythical ingredients, which even the strong Fenrir couldn't break.
Upon being tied, he bit off Tyr's hand, who then thrust his sword into Fenrir's jaw so he wouldn't bite anyone else again.
On the day of Ragnarok, the earthquakes shaking Yggdrasil (the world tree) will break Gleipnir, and Fenrir will be free. He will remove Tyr's sword from his jaw, then go to engage Odin (aka Fimbultyr) in battle, defeat him and eat him. After which Odin's son Vidar will kill Fenrir.

Wintersun – Sons of Winter and Stars Lyrics 4 years ago
It seems the sons of winter and stars are the polar lights; aurora borealis/australis. Because when the radiation released by the sun (a star) reaches the polar regions of the planet (where one can poetically say winter is eternal), It interacts with the magnetosphere of the earth to create polar lights. Here are some lyrical references:
“Symphony of dying lights” because northern lights appear as many waves, disappear in the dark sky and starting again.
“And life and death became abound” the sky is alive with light above the frozen polar region mostly devoid of life due to the cold temperatures.
“I have awakened the darkness” May reference the beliefs of ancient cultures that the polar lights are spirits of the dead ancestors coming to visit earth temporarily
“Taste the fear! Taste the pain! I am the one who seeks vengeance” This and other danger/conflict/ adventure themed lyrics seen through much of the song are I think Jari’s imagination running wild while looking at the sky and imagining the northern lights/ ancestor spirits having battles, competitions, games, etc. It’s a reference to their playful wavelike movements and mysteriousness. (If you see it or look at a video of aurora borealis and you’ll see what I mean)
“They will never survive, they'll die” references to the transitory nature of the polar lights since they’re only visible in low light conditions. Once dawn comes, they can’t be seen with the human eye and appear to ‘die’
“We fly beyond the birth of worlds” The radiation of the sun, once deflected by earth’s magnetosphere will travel many light years away to distant parts of our universe. It will reach nebulas (celestial nurseries) where stardust is accumulating to form young stars, planets and solar systems, and then keep going…
“So old I’ve become …That it was just an illusion”” references how the energy of the stars/suns was never created nor will it be destroyed (according to laws of thermodynamics) but just transformed into different things. It always was and will be, it’s as old as time itself (I’m not a scientist feel free to correct errors!)
“Someday I will find what I am here for, who am I?... The energy flows in me like a river of stars” Jari is realizing that same sun’s energy that makes the polar lights is also a part of him (plants grow from sunshine, its energy works its way up the food chain, etc).
“Our world shall never die” as long as new suns and planets with magnetospheres are created in the universe, there will always be the phenomenon of the polar lights.
“In the arms of the wind we ride till dawn” referring to the solar wind (radiation) and apparent disappearance at dawn (according to human eyes).

Ensiferum – Lost Iin Despair Lyrics 4 years ago
Beautiful song, it’s about suffering and healing.
“I cannot feel” When people go through incredible psychological trauma they become mentally numb. Similarly with the physical, if the skin is burned to an extent that the pain receptors are destroyed, the burn victim actually doesn’t feel anything. “It burns like fire”. Fire destroys, but also purifies. After the numbness of purification, renewal and healing follows. Just like a forest rejuvenating itself after a forest fire sweeps through.
“Crush my hopes, grow my hate” This is the angry, agitated state which upon dissipation leads to clarity of mind.
“Nothing is real… tell me it’s a dream” when people undergo great trauma they feel their situation is so bad that it cannot possibly be real, it must be an illusion, this can’t really be happening. Oddly enough this sometimes leads to a spiritual awakening of sorts, where the person learns acceptance and surrender. They learn to not take life too seriously, relax and develop a capacity to be completely, stoically calm even in life threatening situations. “Bury me in the sand” acceptance of death allows us to act not out of fear but out of desire to create and/or love
